After thinking about the events that's taken place in the last week or so, I've started getting a little excited.
It's going on 2 years since we've heard a peep outta ole Diamond Dave. He's gotta be getting ansy. Dave likes to stay busy. Even when he's in the studio, he likes to make appearances here and there, interviews, etc. IMO, he's kinda like the Liberace of rock and roll. That is, he LOVES being famous. Loves all the fame, fortune and glory that goes with it. Loves people, and loves being in the public eye.
To keep him shut up for over a year and counting, has got to be like a lifetime for him.
I think that is why we've been hearing so much from Dave lately. The comment on DLR.com, his statement on the theater AND more surprizing, his response to his statement...
That is why I think we just might be getting close, one way or the other we might be getting something. "Keep honking buddy. I'm reloading..." -The Mard
"......HEY!.............alright............." -BIG FOOT
" I know what you're thinking: "Do I want to watch Mard? We know that horses were very strong and could actually stop airplanes from flying away. The ones made out of stone called "statues" -- occasionally came to life and rode off is a colonial cliche. How many more times do we need to hear about how the oppressive Raj's wore villainous black capes, crafted cunning plastic masks to impersonate people, and drained all the blood from their slaves so they could keep the fluid in bottles in their dungeons? I mean, YAWN!
But if you're willing to sit through this dry sort of historical drama one more time -- or even just this dry historical review -- you will not be disappointed. In fact, some of you might just learn something they didn't teach you in school!- MARD-The Movie

MARD, my brother, not taking a stab at you or anything, but when did you convert to the "Dave is in VH" faction? I seem to recall you always saying stuff like mark my words, DLR isn't and never was reunited with the band...

Dave has had other quiet parts in his career. It really isn't unusual for him to be out of the public eye when he has nothing going on. So... get ready.

Although I'd almost be willing to bet we don't hear much more from DLR until we start hearing things from VH too (unless the outcome I shall officially refer to as, "the MARD Procedure") comes to pass. It seems to me like the only reason he spoke up this time was because he felt he "had to.""Just once I'd like to do the right thing and not get punished for it."

Dave isn't going anywhere...I mean for christ sake...this guy has nine lives, and the way I figure it...he's only used about five...
VH or no VH...Roth will live on...whether it's in Vegas ...or more likely our rock and roll hearts...
Dave will move on if VH doesn't pan out. You see, Dave is probably the biggest Classic VH fan there is. And I can see him keeping quiet hoping the sleeping giant wakes up one more time. The question is...did some other people, without naming names, give the band to many freakin' sleeping pills...EUAS

Well, I can certainly understand why DLR wants a VH "Reunion".
He should have never left. He thought he was "Bigger than the band". That Ed was holding him back, that Ed did it for the money, as well as their styles were changing...I think after his solo career went in the tank, he relized it and has bean trying to get back ever since.
'96 is probably as close as we're ever gonna see. Dave had his shot and it just didn't work out. In spite of the MTV thing, and everything else, had the chemistry been there, he would have remained. People say Ed already had Gary and was influenced by Ray Daniels...Doesn't matter. Had Ed liked what they did, and enjoyed working with Dave again, they would have told Gary "good-bye". They could have went right on tour without a "Reunion CD" and promoted the BOV1.
I think the same thing happened/is happening again. They went into this thing with the "no matter what!" attitude. Except they never thought it would be this hard. I think DLR has done everything that was asked of him and then some. Like Pojo said, not just for himself, but for his fans. But it just isn't working out. Musically, DLR and EVH are on different world. Not only that, I think DLR doesn't like the people the band surrounded themselves with. It's not just 4 guys starting a band, it a business. BIG BUSINESS. Moreover, I don't think Ed respects DLR, anymore.
It's only a matter of time before DLR says "Fuck this"..."Keep honking buddy. I'm reloading..." -The Mard

When it gets to be more than just 4 guys being in a band...making music...if it's all about BIG BUSINESS...than maybe it's time to quit.
If all of this is about Van Halen and Roth fighting over shared dollars...then fuck 'em all if you ask me. Yeah, it's big business, the money that comes in. But without true music behind that business, you get VH3...
Now, as far as Ed respecting Dave...did he ever? Ed will always be respected as a guitarist...no doubt about it. But if you ask me, as a person, I'm not sure the same thing fits. You have to ask yourself this. Right now, how many people in this business respect Ed outside of his musicianship?
I'm not gonna touch the comment about why Dave left in 1985. You can side with who you want to on that one. It's been railed into the ground. But if you know something I don't MARD, I'd love to hear it. Of course, we've gone down this road before...EUAS
