I was thinking over stuff and decided to ask around for everyone's opinion. I have an MP3 of DLR singing Jimi Hendrix's "Crosstown Traffic." I have no clue where I got it but it has to be very recent because his voice sounds like it did during the DLR Band tour. I stupidly forgot where and WHEN I got this MP3. But does anyone question Dave's voice? I know what he sounds like now and I still like it but how will everyone accept it?

Any singer has his periods when he wasn't that great. Listen to Robert Plant in the mid to late 70's. Mick Jagger had his moments in the mid 70's where he was headed for (in the words of one critic) "the Joe Cocker hall of fame" and for David Lee Roth the mid 90's weren't very kind to his voice, which in Dave's case was mostly from lack of regular singing. the 98 album and 99 tour proved that Dave is back.
As for the "Crosstown Traffic" MP3 (which I have also), I'm guessing this is an outtake from the EEAS/Skyscraper era. It's certainly much older than the DLR Band sessions.

Wasn't that a track that was supposed to be on the Howard Stern movie but left off at the last minute? That was like 1997 right? I coulda sworn I heard that somewhere.

I can believe it was left off of "Private Parts." But there is NO WAY it is from the 80's. My guess is '96-'99...

Well, now we have all the bases covered because I understood that Crosstown Traffic was from the 91-92 period of time. Either way, it's a cool version of a cool tune. Really, I don't worry at all about Dave's voice. I'd certainly like to see Dave take care of his voice, but his voice is an extension of himself. His voice, like him, has seen alot of mileage and to me that's one of the coolest things about it.

I think it's interesting that Ed started by playing other people's music - they knew 200 covers in the early club days, played 5 sets a night. Templeman capitalized on that and had them release many...
