How much influence did the late Jan Van Halen have on Diver Down? I ask because 1) Jan performed on the album; and 2) it contains a lot of cover tunes, even really old ones like Happy Trails. Was that Dad's idea?

I heard that it was Dave's idea to have Jan perform on Big Bad Bill. I'm not sure if Jan had anything to do with what songs on the album, though.

Anytime I've ever heard Eddie speak of his father, you can tell he loved his father dearly and was very loyal to him. Given that Eddie has been fairly critical of the cover tunes on Diver Down (and that Diver Down is the only VH album not represented on the Best Of album), if they were Jan's idea in any way, I'd doubt that Eddie would be that critical of them.

My opinion is that too little time plus too much cocaine = Diver Down.

Ed always says how he hates Diver Down. He said it was the record company that made them do all the cover tunes.
