I know most of us on here are lookin' anywhere to confirm the news officially that DLR and VH have reunited, however it amazes me the number of times I read posts here by people excited just cuz their local DJ/radio personality says so. In every single situation, these DJ's quote verbatim exactly what we've all be discussing here for the past 6 or 7 months.

Back in February or so, here in Toronto, some know-nothing DJ gets me all hype for some big Van Halen news just before a commercial break. When they finally return, she comes on there all proud of herself, rehashing everything that we've discussed on VHlinks and elsewhere on the net, for weeks.

I'm tellin' you folks, very few of these DJ's are privileged to anymore info than you and I are. This is 2000, we ain't in the dark ages, pre-net 70's and 80's. When President Clinton farts, you and I find out about it 2 seconds after.

Tommy Nast is probably the guy with the most insight to the band, yet he too was only able to provide us with odds 'n ends of rumours that we've all heard before.

Nobody hates this waitin' more than me, but don't let those DJ's falsely inflate your expectations til they can back it up with reputable sources. You gotta remember, these stations are in the business of gettin' and keepin' listeners. If some guy gets on there and says DLR and Van Halen are back together, it's bound to get everybody hyped to sit round the radio waitin' for more info. CH-CHING!! increased listenership equals increased advertising revenue.

    Hunh.

Thought I settled this in the "Radio Rumor" thread over in the "VH Rumors" forum.

You can take me figuratively, too, y'know...

The SLAWTERHOUSE Bug, I didn't see that thread or I would've put my long winded post over there. I felt compelled to start this topic, cuz I just read yet another post by a fan, who seem to be put great faith in the fact his local DJ said DLR was back with VH. I guess I'm just sick of seeing these type of posts is all.

Well, I don't want to preclude the possibility of any deejay havin' the poop - maybe a high-profile jock with an established VH rapport, like Howard Stern, might have some of the skinny - but you can apply a litmus test.

Generally, if some no-name from Tuna Fish, Wyoming or Bumfuct, Nebraska claims an inside line, you can just about write it off. Large-market stations like to exploit this situation, too. But I can tell you that our contacts - some of the same reps who service the #2 market in the country - haven't done anything for us, in terms of the VH tip.

Nor should they really be expected to. I've seen one WB rep quoted as saying that we'll probably know before he does.

How about the "Morning Mayor" here at 97.9 KUPD in Phoenix? He had a contest where the winner was to get an all-expense paid trip to D.C. to see "a reunited Van Halen with David Lee Roth". He even had on a source, supposedly from WB, to confirm, although he's never mentioned it since...

"The Mayor" has been at it here in zonie land for 18 years, and you can't make it in radio for that long without knowing what you're doing, but I don't know if any of these DJs verify their sources, and most are not able to get real people as sources anyway. Why spend time researching something and talking to whatever contacts you have when you won't get compensated for it and there is such a vast resource of B.S. like the internet to save you the trouble?

I've never worked in radio, so the above is conjecture based on experience as a listener...
