Why didn't they release it with VH3?

Why didn't Van Halen put "That's why I love you" on VH3 and where is it from? I got it off Kazaa the other day like I do everything. I searched Van Halen and "VH - That's Why I Love You" popped up. I downloaded it and it has Cherone singing, so why wasn't it on VH3?? This song is great compared to the other crap they put on vh3. I bet if this song had been toward the top of the track list for vh3, the album might have sold better. Was this a post vh3 effort or was it discarded in favor of How Many Say I?

It was supposed to have been the first single off VH3 but for some reason it got axed and replaced with Josephina not long before the record was supposed to be coming out.
My theory is that Eddie decided not to put it on the album because VH had gotten a bit of a soft image after songs like Can't Stop Lovin' You and Not Enough and it would look pretty lame if they put out another lead single with 'love' in the title.
On the version I have, Gary sounds like he had a stick up his ass or something. The solo in the song gives me the chills every time I listen to it and there aren't very many songs that can do that.
A polished version should have been put on the album. If Gary could have sung like he did on Pornograffiti or III Sides TWILY would have really smoked.
We'll see how long this lasts here before it gets shipped off to the Songs/Albums/Videos forum.

I just wish they would have released their second cd with Gary. Sounds like it was almost done when they quit. I'm curious how it sounded....

It wasn't supposed to be the first single, but it was the first song that Gary wrote lyrics for. It got left off because they thought it was out of place on the album, and Josephina replaced it.

It was pulled because it was leaked early om the internet from what I remember. Ed was pretty pissed about it.

It was probably dumb ass Ray's decision to leave it off the album. Personally I think a more polished version would have made a great follow up single to Without You. Apparently they were reworking the track to appear on the follow up to III.

What MikeL said is the (known) truth. It was a little pop diddy they wrote right away over the phone and decided it didn't fit with the "feel" of the rest of the album, so they axed it for Josephina at the last minute.

If you disregand Cherone's singing and just focus on Eddie's guitar riffs, the song sounds awesome. Especially his little 20 second solo that happens around 2 minutes 31 seconds, assuming you have the same version I do (listen to it!). That's one of my favorite little solos he's ever done. You can't deny Eddie's guitar playing in VH3 is superb and is some of the best he has ever done, despite the fact that the songs were poor themselves. His playing shines through and is the only real compensation for the $15 you paid for the cd.
