Van Halen Info kinda

I was talking to one of my clients today (they are one of the largest music retailers in Canada). I asked if she had heard of any Van Halen info - new release stuff. She checked her release schdule and saw nothing. She then called her distrubtor - and they had nothing up until April 6. I asked if there was anything beyond that - to which she didn't know. I guess releases longer than 6 weeks out frequently change. She also mentioned that in order to protect secrecy - labels will also keep releases very hush hush until 6 weeks out - and said this happens quite frequently...

Can anyone confirm if this takes place? Has there ever been an instance where a act released a new cd and it caught everyone off guard?

I have never really been surprised by a release before, but maybe it has happened. But I doubt they could keep all the tour arrangements hush hush. Dave Matthews Band has already released venues and ticket information for the first leg of their summer tour....so VH touring this summer is highly unlikely

With a reunion of this magnitude, of course, the element of surprise would, in the minds of marketers, only help to enhance the hype.

The element of surprise isn't there anymore.

Most have heard about the Dave is back rumor either on the net or the radio by now.

Its now just anticipation.

Funny how that rhymes with constipation, which how we have been since Gary left, (some, when they first heard VH3 though)

I think the best we can hope for is what Mikey has said earlier in the year - a release of a new single in Sept. - August, the release of the new CD to shortly follow, then perhaps a tour either late in the year (which I do not see happening) or early next year (which seems most likely).
