Well, I heard the "Monsters of Rock" tour referred to as the "Dinosaurs of Rock" tour - and it wasn't meant as flattery!

Billy Idol used to call the bands like Zeppelin and all the arena style bands "dinosaurs" back when he was into the punk scene---that term has been around for awhile----I'll bet however that these "dinosaurs" will last as long as the original big lizards did...unlike the fad BS that gets shoved down our throats on a daily basis..

Didn't Bart Simpson nag Homer for listening to Dino Rock? I always thought it meant like Foghat, Bread, America, Free, you know those old obscure one hit types. I think when you've had as many hits as VH, and still manage to sound timeless, you escape the dino label.

Here's a quote from the 1995 Rolling Stone interview with EVH.
Hey, dinosaurs are great. Dinosaurs are huge, right?

I don't know what BillyIdol is barking about. Most of these "Dinosaur Bands" are commercially more successful and bigger then he ever was.
Van Halen
Aerosmith
Rush
Def Leppard
Pink Floyd
Scorpions
ZZ Top
Kiss
AC\DC
