Ok,
I think it is pretty obvious by now that Van Halen with DLR is going to happen. At a minimum - there will be a new Van Halen CD in the new year. That being said - who do you think will be producing the new CD - and or - who would you like to see produce the new CD?
I think probably Ted T. is producing it - however, would love to hear what Glen Ballard would do with the guys (I thought MWM, CGTSN and Humans Being were all outstanding efforts - and really captured the vibe of the band).

Ithought it was Danny Kortchemar (spelling?). Remember that interview with him in Vintage Guitar magazine that he talked about producing them?

Ballard didn't produce Humans Being. The late great Bruce Fairbairn was at the helm for that one. Probably the best tune Halen ever did with Hagar.
Cheers.

I would love to have Ted Templeman back as the producer. Glen Ballard would be fine as well. He did a great job with the two BOV1 tunes with Roth. Forget about Mike Post. Let him go back to NYPD Blue music.

I agree: Ted, but if he can't do it, then Glenn Ballard.

He was working on the VH3 follow up, however presumably when that was aborted, he went elsewhere.

Don't forget that in that Gary interview that came out a few days ago it said that Patrick Leonard was producing the VH project before Gary left.
Personally, I'd like to see Glenn Ballard produce it.

Yeh, sounds like they were adopting the practice they tried on vh3... rotating producer syndrome or something lol

Hey, if they can't pick a singer, chances are they can't pick a producer either.

Although his producing style is antithetical to Edward's "fall down the stairs and land on your feet" approach to music, I would give anything to hear what the ultra-reclusive Robert John "Mutt" Lange (Cars, Shania Twain) would do would with Van Halen. I have no doubt that the result would be amazing. To my ear Lange has yet to come up with a stinker.
Another producer that would be interesting is Ron Nevison (Heart, Vince Neil). Though his track record is a little spotty (Kiss and Ozzy come to mind), his work on Night Ranger's underrated 1997 album Neverland was truly inspired. He is probably more affordable and available than the ultra-succesful Lange as well.
Then of course they could do a Rolling Stones and hire The Dust Brothers (or was it The Chemical Brothers? I always get those two mixed up).
Cheers.

Coming home from work tonight I was listening to Metallica - and would love to hear what direction Bob Rock would take the band in. At least we would hear some bass....

It's Ted Templeman.
My reason for this is the story that ran on the VHND and Slawterhouse over a year ago.
It was well known that TT was hired (after Gary quit)to work on the follow up to the DLR Band album. What I believe is that TT was really hired by Dave under the cover of working on his solo project when in fact he is producing the new VH album.IMO

I just got finished reading that book with all the Guitar World interviews with Ed, and it was interesting to read Eddie's thoughts on the producers the band has worked with. Keep in mind that the following quotes are from different interviews taken at different times. (I have some free time on my hands today, as you can see).
On Ted Templeman:
"Ted is...a very organized cat. I mean, you put Andy Johns, Sammy, Al, Mike and me in a room together, and we'll piss up a rope for years, just having fun and experimenting. Ted finally said, "Enough is enough. What do you want, a double record? You'll be here for another year. Let's finish what we've got." He cracked the whip and pulled everything together."
On Andy Johns:
"He is the first engineer to capture the sound of Van Halen's rhythm section. The bottom line is: If Al is happy, then I'm happy. It isn't hard to get a great guitar sound. It's much harder to get a fantastic acoustic drum sound--which I think Andy did. He brought the inspiration that comes from the sound element. He would make a small suggestion, or move a knob or two, and our sound would change, automatically goosing our creative juices."
On the late Bruce Fairbairn:
"Bruce is very structured. He wouldn't let us loaf for a minute, so we completed Balance more quickly than any other album we've done in years. We wrote, recorded, and mastered the whole fucking thing in five months. We started in June, and by the end of October it was mastered. .... Bruce just said, "Work, motherfuckers." He's a serious guy. He walks in with his briefcase and says, "This is what we're doing today." We would be like, "Oh fuck, I don't want to do it. Let's do that tomorrow." He always answered, "No, you're doing it now." It was great working with him."
On Donn Landee (engineer):
"A main element in my own songwriting is Donn Landee. Donn and I work together at structuring things--I bounce everything off of him before anyone hears it. We understand each other well. To the point where the way he makes things sound is basically the way I hear things in my head. This is very unusual."
On Glen Ballard:
"Glen is just the most beautiful guy you'll ever meet. I won't work with anyone else anymore--there's no reason to. He and I connect, like musical soul mates. He wrote Alanis Morissette's album in one day, and he and I are that way, too. When we get together, we brainstorm and a song is done in two seconds."
------------------
"..Stare at disbelief at me when I just up and walk, OUTTA LOVE!"--DLR, Outta Love Again
"That's the thing about self-improvement. Don't get me wrong, I plan to get some soon"
--DLR, Can't Get This Stuff No More
