MTV news: It gets weirder

Here's a snippet. The last paragraph is really puzzling me - the
hospital is Houston says he carried on the cancer prevention program
for much of last year but never diagnosed him as having cancer? WTF?

What's the deal? He got diagnosed in LA but Houston missed it? Or he
went to months of cancer prevention treatment and then got cancer.

Center in Los Angeles, said she could not say whether Van
Halen had been treated at the hospital.

Last May, a spokesperson for M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in
Houston denied reports that Van Halen had cancer, but said the
guitarist was being treated in a cancer prevention program at
the hospital (see "UPDATE: Van Halen Cancer Report
Clarified").

The spokesperson, Jane Brust, said Friday that Van Halen
continued that program over the last year, but hasn't been at
the cancer center for several months. Doctors at that hospital
have never diagnosed him with cancer, Brust said.

Jonathan, I think it's obvious that certain information wasn't made public for obvious reasons, first and foremost, because he is such a public figure that all of the media attention and fan attention would obviously cause him some disturbance.

His recent statement doesn't really reveal a whole lot, but I'll take him at his word that he is doing great at this point. I don't think it's so important at this point to dissect every event, statement, etc. to try and figure out his (& Dave's) situation, but rather to focus on now, the present.

I know you hope he recovers and they can carry on with the reunion. I just think our prayers, energy, etc., can be more productively spent at this point by concentrating on him fully recovering.

The third paragraph refers to today (Friday). Why would they lie? They'd more likely say no comment.

I don't want to sound like a prick but I'm sure I'm going to anyway. I don't do prayer - I'll leave that to others, and I fail to see how I can put energy into concentrating on Eddie fully recovering. I have no idea what that means.

Of course I want him to get better above all else. But I can't switch of my brain and pretend that the info out there isn't really out there.

well, if you'll notice, i didn't just say prayer because i didn't want to offend anyone. Anyway, I wasn't trying to ding anybody...i just feel that it's no use trying to over analyze when he got diagnosed and by whom, etc....the fact remains is that now, the present, we know why things have taken a while...obviously, no information was revealed (and a few white lies were told) in an effort to protect his privacy.

Not that I'm saying Ed is dying at all, because he has said he is doing great, but this kind of makes me think of the Freddie Mercury situation... No one talked about his actual condition until it was too late to hide it anymore.

And, I wasn't trying to sound like a prick myself. I had no intention of offending you Jonathan. And when I said "energy", i simply meant that if you don't pray, then surely you can have a positive thought toward his recovery....nothing sophisticated about that.

I absolutely agree. I doubt whether we will see a tour for a long time, if ever, even if
they manage to record an album. I certainly didn't mean to imply that Eddie is lying/spinning to delay a reunion.

I just think the statement from the Houston hospital is odd.

I love how these arguments always get turned around [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img] All day it's been *we* should do this and *we* shouldn't do that. I never suggested anyone shouldn't pray, just that *I* wouldn't.

esquire - I didn't think you were being a prick or making me uncomfortable. Like I said, of course I want Eddie to get better. But I can have positive thoughts without switching off my analytical side (which I can't do....it's in my blood).
