Has anyone else noticed that the production sound of DIVER DOWN'S HANG 'EM HIGH sounds identical to the production sound of the first VH album? I was listening to it in my walkman. It's got exactly the same drum sound as VH1, and the same exact reverb on the guitar that Eddie had stopped using right after the first album (at least to this degree). Considering the music was written way back in the Seventies anyway, does anyone think it's possible that the recording (the instrumental part) was actually laid down right during the 1st album sessions (not the demo sessions, but the actual first album sessions) and Dave just added new vocals in 1982? This wouldn't surprise me considering how quickly they needed an album and how quickly the album was put together.

I think it is VERY possible the track used was recorded pre-1978. I know that on the demos bootleg, the song Last Night is that exact song with different lyrics. (I just talked about this on the alternate lyrics thread).

Considering that the recording of Diver Down was rushed and that the music to Hang 'Em High was originally on Last Night, I'd say it's a possibility.

Interesting thought...
I guess anything is possible. Wasn't "Jump" also done around the time of "Fair Warning" but Dave never gave it the until "1984"? Not sure if it's totally accurate...
Back to "Hang 'Em High"...I never considered that the music may have been laying around for 6 year or so, but stranger things have happened.
"Take Me Back (Deja Vu)" was another one of those tunes on the early VH boots that was later redone. I've always wanted them to release the early stuff with a better mix of production OR just re-record some new lyrics over the old music. Whatever...just bring on the good stuff! Never thought of it actually, but now that you mention it, it does make sense. And if true, during that time, it was still where were you last night. Maybe over time they got tired of the lyrics and re-wrote to put it on II? Interesting.

Well, I always thought it was interesting that this is the only song on Diver Down that had the guitar on the left speaker only. And, I always thought that it sounded like the original VHI release.

Nice observation! I never really noticed it. I love the song and how it just smokes from beginning to end. I have to take another listen to it today.
