"Need I say More"
Okay first and foremost, I think it's a wonderful song. Better than anything from Van Halen III. Perhaps even better than most of the stuff he did with Extreme. Bottom line. It could be a great commercial comeback for Gary Cherone, and I'd buy it.
Now here's my question...
Why is the self proclaimed devoted Christian cursing on his record?
1:42- It was all a fucking lie.
Is Gary Cherone a hypocrite to his religion?
Or is this language acceptable according to his Christian faith?
Just wonderin'...

I am a Christian and I curse, drink lots of beer, lust after beautiful gurls... I guess it is just hard to do all of that which Christianity asks...

Gary claims he's a DEVOTED CHRISTIAN. I suppose that means he follows Jesus Christ, and reads his bible. I could be wrong. It doesn't make much sense why he would intentionally curse in his new song.

This reminds me of when some of my "bible thumping" friends decided they weren't going to support U2 anymore, because of something Bono said in the movie "Rattle and Hum", in the middle of Sunday Bloody Sunday.....
The glory of the revolution..... and the glory of dying for the revolution.....FUCK THE REVOLUTION!!
Bono was reacting to a terrorist act that had taken place that very day in Ireland. He was justifiably pissed at the stupidity of the tragedy. But the modern day Pharisees couldn't see past the fact that he used an "un Christ like " word in public.
Jesus Christ got pissed off too. He walked into a Temple where a bunch of idiots were trying to make a buck off His Dad's name. Jesus trashed the place, like Van HALEN in a hotel room in 1979 (without the chicks and Jack Daniels, one would assume). I'm not saying the Lord told these guys to get the FUCK out of His house, but if He had, would anyone question it?
I'm not exactly Cherone's biggest fan, but given the general tone of the lyrics, the word "fucking" isn't out of place at all. I would actually more concerned with Gary's soul because of the nature of the song itself, which seems to sound more like Morrisey than Extreme. Cherone seems a bit depressed, doesn't he?
Maybe you should pray for him?Eat Us And Smile
Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!
...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

This song is better than all of VH3, in my opinion. Sure it's simple, but it gets to its point better than anything on 3.
I don't have any Extreme albums, so other than 3, I don't know Gary's stuff. But you can tell on this song that he sounded comfortable and was singing within his range, which further proves how wrong Eddie was to push him to sing out of it. Coupled with his having come off throat surgery, it's not wonder why Gary sounded as bad as he did on 3.
There are some other TOJ songs out there, but this is the first I've downloaded. It probably won't be the last. I'm not saying I'm bolting for the 'church of Cherone', not by any means, but I've got to say I'm interested in trying out their other stuff after hearing NISM.
Dave, Mike, Sam, Gary... They're all doing something (in certain cases, together).
But Eddie and Alex? "Psst... Hey, come on man, wake up!"
It doesn't make much sense why he would intentionally curse in his new song.
I don't think Gary's being a hypocrite for cursing. It doesn't make him any less "devoted," religiously.

maybe cherone should just give up the day job & do something more suited to his voice...like donate his tongue to edward - he could make better use of it..
or
he could play tommy on stage - just as long as he kept up with the dumb part permanently..?

Being a pretty devoted Catholic myself, I mean just because someone is christan doesnt mean they do no wrong and are perfect (although some sure act like they are). And with him being a musician and in the public eye, its even more rough. My point is no one is perfect, event those who are truely religous still sin and do stuff they arent supposed to. Just because he said fuck, doesn't mean he's turned his back on the christan world and now worships the devil.
By the way, thats not the first time he has said that word!

I find it kinda funny sometimes when people say that they are Christian and do things that Christians aren't supposed to do and then get reemed for it by the world.
Saying that you are a christian doesn't mean you are now perfect and above everyone else. And if any christian says this, then they need a shot of reality.
Christianity is like one begger telling another begger where to find food. The begger doesn't have food, and can not keep it and then pass it out. He can only pass along the place to get the food.Your favorite band sucks.

Being a devoted Christian myself, I can tell you this...there isn't a set "list of rules" for
Christians to follow. Although, the most important request God asks of us is that we live
a life that is different from that of non-Christians. Now, that doesn't mean you can't play music for a living or drink socially or whatever. It just means that if you're living your life as a
good Christian, it should be noticeable by people who aren't Christians.
Cursing in our culture is generally looked at as something a religious person doesn't do. These kinds of standards have been set by "religious nuts" who frown upon whatever they consider wrong.
Is it wrong for a Christian to curse in order to make a point or explain an emotion? No.
Is it wrong for a Christian to curse four times in every sentence, giving the impression that he or she doesn't care about their Christian testimony? Yes.
Is it wrong for a Christian to down a beer every now and then at a backyard barbecue? No.
Is it wrong for a Christian to come home to a spouse and/or child plastered after a night of drinking with the boys? Yes...God would expect him or her to be a responsible spouse and parent and set a good example for the child.
Did Gary Cherone sin by writing this lyric? Maybe according to Billy Graham. In reality, he was simply conveying his thoughts through poetry. As a fellow Christian, I see no wrong in this at all.
