It says it was taken in Germany, which if you check VH tour dates, would corrospond with Dave's story about breaking his nose in 1980? I assume it's taped because his nose is broken.

This is the one that brought it to my attention, and looks to be the same show as your pic Glenn. You are probably right, but for some reason i remember seeing it in more shows than that one.

I was thinking he may have liked the look and carried it for awhile, but i have never read it anywhere, nor heard about it.

Shit. I just posted on the pic thread about this. I was way off on the year. You are right Glenn I just looked it up in an article (I have a scrapbook) and DLR is quoted as sying it happened in Venenzuelia. He mentioned being able to speak Spanish to Doc's even tho he was hammered. I don't have the original mag tho and it's gonna drive me nuts trying to remember. Think it was Hit Parader but I was like 11 when I cut it out.

Dave's story in his book places the incident at a TV taping in Rome. VH didn't even play South America until early 1983 I don't believe.

Of course, far be it from Dave to let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I could be off on the year Glenn. My article isn't dated and only refers to "Van Halen's last tour". It's one of those 2 paragraph pieces from like a notes column with the ******** above and below it. I think Hit Parader did a section like that back then. But you're right, with Roth who knows?

Yeah, that's from the German taping - it's documented in "Crazy From The Heat".

Matter of fact that's where one of my sig lines came from, the same story. I'll look it up and transcribe it for ya here soon as I get a chance. Hilarious story.
