I very recently e-mailed Ray Luzier - telling him how much I liked the two vids on dlr.com - but that I wasn't too keen on the fact that they were cover songs. I basically asked him if there was any original songs on the dvd. Here is Ray's reply:

Hey Bryan,

There's all kind of tunes on DVD, including VH stuff, but mostly cover songs (in a Dave re-make way). We'll hopefully release a new studio cd this year. Lots of stuff going on in the DLR camp now...

CYA,
Ray.

This e-mail actually answered a lot of questions for me. There is going to be live DLR Band footage (remember the reviews last year saying that the gigs were being filmed). Everything else is going to be a cover - I'm cool with that - I was under the impression that a cd was going to be released in conjunction with the dvd - now I know a new album will "hopefully" be released this year - NICE ONE!!!!!!

-why is Ray the DLR spokesman?

-when is this thing coming out?

-is there a distributor for this thing yet?

hell, he should just offer it via his website(snickers)

looks like there'll be 5 or 6 of his techno covers and some DLR band footage

I don't know what goes on in other people's realities.....

"The killer awoke before dawn
he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
and he walked on down the hall!!!"

"Hey, this groove looks suspiciously like a rut!"

This is very disheartening, although not very surprising at all. It's already March, this DVD doesn't appear to be coming out in the immediate future. Ray says there may be a DLR Band cd this year. So wouldn't it make sense to put some new (and I mean NEW, not cover) material on this DVD in order to draw attention and interest to DLR's solo career?

Dave has no credibility in the acting world. The only world he has credibility is the rock and roll world, though that's fleeting daily. But anyway, the only way to sell this DVD is to sell it on the basis of its music, and he's not going to get any new fans by having cover versions like he's put on his website. And that's likely to lose him some of the fans that might be interested if the material was DLR rock music. No surprise that VH material is going to play a part; it's all he's being pimping live for a couple of years now.

This just sounds to me like this whole project is nothing but a time filler, while he prays that VH asks him back. Because this project doesn't look to be doing ANYTHING to resurrect his solo career musically.

That's some decent news on what's going on with DLR. As posted earlier, why is Ray doing all the talking? Why not Dave? By he keeping quiet, it's always in the back of my mind that he and VH will somehow hook up in the future. He certainly does a great job in making sure that everyone knows he ain't saying anything.

the only thing I'm interested in is seeing Dave VS Eddie on Celebrity Death Match! -when are they going to have THAT THING on there???

Eddie must be on his deathbed because all this Mikey/DLR long range planned crap is such a non event that it's just a waste of time that could be spent kickin' serious ass!

if Dave wants to be solo, as Glenn says, he needs to push his rockin' solo songs! When I played in a rock band I did a better job of managing/promoting my band than Dave has done since 1988.

Sorry, I think Ray's dreaming about that DVD being released (or a new CD being distributed for that matter). Guess I'll just wait for the upcoming Metal Sludge 20 questions to put him back into reality...

I'll buy Dave's DVD and check it out, should it ever actually be released.

Hell, what have I got to lose? What am I gonna watch instead, Limp Bisquick or Stinkin' Park? No thanks.

You actually think Ed will sign off on any VH music released by Dave and his cover band? LOL

Dave may have some form of ownership but not sole. If the brothers are not on speaking terms with DLR... I seriously doubt business wise everything would be Kosher...

Remember the attornies got involved with the real deal and hosed it.

Ed has no say in it. That's not how copyright law works - anyone can release their own version of a VH song provided they pay for the license/royalties or whatever. Dave certainly can, just as VH could put Jump on LRHRN without asking Dave. LOL
