Damn.... I just saw some of the videos on the Atomic Punks Web Site, and I just got fuckin chills.... nostalgic??? It's just plain good music, good attitude and it's legendary shit. The Dave schtick (in VH) is just as valid today as it was 20 years ago. If the audience can get so worked up for 4 strangers (albeit very talented) pretending to be VH, the real deal would be the larget tour possibly ever.

How many of you would honestly NOT want to see the original group playing Hot For Teacher and all the other great tunes. Mix in a few new ones and the trubles of the world melt away quickly.

1 album and 1 tour with original line up would satisfy millions and fill that void we've felt for almost 20 years now. After that I think everybody would get off Ed's back to reunite with anybody.

    Carry on...

Dude, I think that the fact that a local Kansas City radio station decided to play non-stop VH for 48 hours spoke volumes about their current relevance.

It almost seemed like a cry for VH. I say "Bring it on baby!".
    ExpandedConsciousness:

WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

I'd pay big $$$ to go see Van Halen with Dave. Van Halen with Dave was the best. It was legendary. It has and will last the test of time. 25 years later and we are still talking about it today.

WAS is the opportive word here. Both Dave and Ed will have to change a great deal for it to work over any serious amount of time. I mean look at KISS' Reunion. Sure it was great for a stroll down memory lane and a chance for fans who never got to see them finally witness it and fans who did see them relive their youth and while that was a great thing they fell extremely short on any kind of follow up to bring any sort of relevance to the momentum they had picked up with the highly successful reunion tour. Dave and Eddie couldn't even present an award to some guy together without Dave getting on Eddie's nerves. How are they going to do a whole tour together, nevermind a new album? And while I admit Eddie is a tightass toward Dave, Dave is a tightass toward Eddie. Say what you will about Aerosmith but they've found a way to get past petty shit like that........and yet fans still aren't fucking happy. It's pretty much a lose-lose situation anyway you look at it.

Sorry, I just dont think there is any way to recreate the magic of yesterdays Van Halen. I just dont see it working with DLR. To quote AVH... "The DLR of of the 80's is not the same DLR of today". 1/2 of DLR's magic was his look and his sexuality. Being the frontman of the band it's still expected. Especially from someone like Dave who sold those things as part of his image. Steven Tyler and Mick Jagger were always ugly... They sold their act on talent alone. Sad thing about Dave is that not only did he lose his looks and chemistry, but he just cant sing that great anymore... I think they could pull it off with Sammy, but Ed's obviously got alot of things to sort out and well, we dont even know if Alex is still alive. I say Mike team up with Brian Young, Ralph Saenz and Scott Patterson! That'd Rock!

I like your point about Jagger and Tyler being ugly. So was Journey's Steve Perry, all of BTO, and lot's of other guys back then.

DLR wasn't just a prettyboy though like a lot of todays manufatured corporate hyped bands that sell Happy Meals and CD's to the kiddies. There is a whole lot of talent and attitude backing up those lyrics. Plus, you don't even see the guy while you are playing the CD or driving down the road. So, I don't think that disqualifies Dave coming back.

Listen to Me Wise Magic and CGTSNM and some of the tunes on the BBQ, he still has the voice. He might have to stay a bit longer in the studio to get it just right nowadays. But when he hits it, it's out of the ball park. Homerun.

Sammy probably could hit his mark quicker in the studio than Dave. But with Sammy, one rarely reaches the outfield even.

I say bring back Dave. If not Dave, then Sammy. If not Dave or Sammy, go for some singer that is young and fresh that will kick all of our asses into a new high gear with his own unique persona and musicianship.

But I really hope it is Dave!

I saw dave live in 99 and in 2002 and he is washed up. CGTSNM and MWM are good songs but his vocals are weak, He was working real hard to make those songs and you can almost hear his vocal chords streacthing when you listen to them. Are they good? Yes. Are they as magical as the old VH tunes... Nope...

Dave solo and Dave on stage with Ed, Alex and Mike are very, very different shows, don't kid yourselves.

The day after a VH reunion concert we would all be chatting about how f'in awsome it was and how Roth ruled and Ed's solo was the best one yet, and how we can always have this moment to cherish. I don't think there would be a Roth masturbation piece as I also don't think we'd get a MA solo, but it would kill.

Most of us would be beaming from ear to ear.

Now, of course my original post is all fantasy, cause I don't see them reuniting any more than I see The Police reuniting, so this is all moot, but still the thought is one I won't give up to the naysayers.

Also, I saw Roth in 2002 and thought he was great, and would put a boot of 2002 up against any vocal performance of his from 1982 and I think 2002 might even be more consistant (minus the high screams, of course).

They could do it. But they don't want to.

The energy of the 4 together would be amazing even if for only 1 CD and 1 tour.

I agree, but that is also my point... Why should the rest of the guys have to carry Dave. VH has already stated that they are not a nostaliga act. Sure a reunion would be awesome but I dont see it being something Vh would do. They have always stated that they move forward and not backwards.

The day after a VH reunion concert we would all be chatting about how f'in awsome it was and how Roth ruled and Ed's solo was the best one yet, and how we can always have this moment to cherish.

Again, I agree seeing them all onstage jammin together would be cool for the sake of nostalgia but I doubt I'd ever sa Roth ruled... What's that mean anyway?

don't think there would be a Roth masturbation piece

Why not? He's done it at every show he's done since leaving VH. The guy has no new material...

I don't think we'd get a MA solo, but it would kill.

I dont know why you think that'd be cut out...

I dont see Ed or Al having much energy about working with Dave. It aint gonna happen! If it did... sure I'd go see it and probably like it. I just don't see it being the right move for VH unless it were simply for the HOF...

Frankly, I think it's time they go the Beatles route and just record. Forget about touring, at this point I don't care. This way, they can work at a pace where they aren't in each others faces for weeks or months at a time.

There's a certain vocal range where Dave can shine, plus you've always got Mikey to fill in the holes, which he always did anyway throughout all of VH's career. There's really nothing wrong with that. I've been critical of Dave's voice for sure, but if they can punch in effects on the instruments, what difference does it make if they have to compensate for Dave's voice at certain pitches?

I've never felt let down by the lyrics that Dave has brought to the table, and I don't believe his five year hiatus from recording has anything to do with being out of ideas lyrically. I think it's just his own ego about selling a small number of records.

I also think it's a moot point, because it isn't going to happen in my opinion.
