Transcript of Dave on VH-1

I'm baffled that some people have been going bonkers of DLR's recent statements on VH1. I finally saw the clip in question and Dave DOES NOT ask Eddie to call him. What he does say is "Love ya baby (kiss). You know my number." And it's sort of a half-hearted, whimsical statement. Here's a transcript of the VH-1 segment.

SMITH: What could be bigger than a Van Halen reunion tour? How about a co-headling tour featuring former dueling Van Halen frontmen. That's right! Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth have united this summer to tour across America. Earlier, I had a chance to speak with Diamond Dave and get his take on this unprecedented event - and talk about some other stuff, too.

SMITH: How's the tour been goin'

DLR: The tour has been off the hook and the cumulative value of - you know - all the talk in the press and on the radio and shows like this, we're averaging you can possibly think of and then some.

SMITH: Your set list is primarily old Halen.

DLR: At the time, yeah. I'm goin' for the power issue, here. Fury and precision. I am the voice of Van Halen. I think that the music is more popular than it ever has been. I practically own an entire genre of radio stations. They're classic. Timeless.

SMITH: You said at the press conference, a while ago, that if you go to any football stadium, any car driving by, or any big outdoor event that there's going be a song blaring by either you or Sammy. Was that the impetus for this tour?

DLR: I think that the idea of two warring superpowers (or perhaps we are mere singer of songs, depending on which bible you read) (laughs) Ok, we're obviously not in love with each other and that rivalry is exactly the kind of mix-it-up that an audience wants to get in the middle of.

SMITH: Any chance of ever getting back together with Van Halen?

DLR: I'm always good to go. You can tell that. I'm a "no notice" guy. We didn't get ready for this tour. This band was ready last Hanukah. Hey - I'm an optimist. You hope for the best. I expect it! Maybe this reaches out to Eddie Van Heineken. Love ya baby (kiss). You know my number.

So, clearly - the comment was no big deal but the segment was kind of cool and featured some great live footage.

VH-1 also featured a segment with Sam and Mike in which Sammy says that the only way he'll do a reunion with Van Halen is if it's a Sam & Dave tour. He says that he doesn't like Dave anymore but it's what the fans want.

Since then Dave and Sam have been talking reunion every few days.

Now we need Ed and Al.

Eddie's out there playin with Mountain.
Hopefully Dave's VH1 message wasnt the old making a mountain out of a molehill...

We'll see.

I think the "molehill" was the mountain show with Eddie on guitar the other night.

And the MOUNTAIN will be the reunion tour with Sam and Dave and Van Halen!

It only seems like wishful-thinking on the part of Sammy and Dave. I'd really like to see an exclusive interview with Eddie that asks non-golf questions!

But "we've" needed Ed and Al since 1996 and nothing has happened. I'd be very surprised if they finally do agree to a reunion. In fact, I'm surprised that Mike keeps talking about it like it *will* happen, or rather, that it's the only logical next step. In light of Lance's transcript I think it's regretable that people have chosen to misconstrue Dave's comments as representing Dave asking Eddie to call him for a reunion! It betrays a desperate mentality that has been leaking from these chat boards for a long time.

The idea that everything that happens with the people who have been related to Van Halen is evidence of a reunion is just downright silly; but people are now so desperate for a reunion with Roth they have even started to delude themselves into thinking that Dave's sarcasm is reason for hope. Dave himself has recently and plainly indicated that chances of a reunion are slim.

There are reasons to be positive though! Even though Dave's voice isn't always great on this tour it is a heck of a lot better than it has been in years - I just hope I attend a concert where he works his hardest to sing well and provide a good show..it's one of the most important things he has going for him.

All the negativity will go away when the Van Halen site sends a message from Eddie, Al, and Mike that Van Halen has decided to reunite with David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar for the Van Halen fans.

I saw the clip with Roth, Lance's transcript is accurate. Also saw the clip with Sammy, Mike was sitting adjacent to him on the couch, and Sammy was saying something to the effect of, "Me and Dave had a huge fight just last nite, rather our management did, so I went to Dave and he said "you owe me more shows", and I told him that I didn't and I was responsible for getting him back out in the game."

Mike didn't say much or anything that I can remember. Nothing here to get your panties in a wad about in my opinion.

I didnt have a transcript, i had just woken up and seen it on tv and i was flying high from it.

The VH1 screen said Dave to Eddie: Call me.
Dave saying "you got my number" and looking into the camera WAS a message to eddie, it was a mini commercial dave was making as part of hyping a reunion.

Thats why since then him and sam have been positive about a reunion, rather than playing it down. Sammy was saying no way for years, now he's saying for the fans, now hes saying he can deal with dave, we'll do it and give away money to charity, eddie needs to come and go fishing with me and become friends again, then make music.

And Dave is saying to eddie that he wants him to call and give the okay. He's saying positive things in interviews now, too, whereas he had stopped that for a while and said i wouldnt hold my breath on a reunion.

So, everybody relax, Dave and Sam are DEFINATELY hyping a reunion, and Mikey's mouth is running again too, saying eddie and al have talked about it in depth.

A new recording with Eddie will be out next month.
The Dave and Sam tour ends next month.

Then we'll see.
