Another good sign that there is hope

I was at the mall last Friday night and stopped to pick up a pair of Chuck Taylor hightops. I see a kid in the store buying a new pair of Chucks as well. As he is removing his old Chucks to try on the new ones, the employee helping him notices something. The kid has "Van Halen" written in pen on one of the soles. The guy says: "Cool Van Halen, you like those guys?" the kid (probably 16 TOPS) says: "Oh yeah, I love 'em..." The employee asks: "What's your favorite album?" the kid says: "Diver Down probably" I couldn't believe this, how cool /refreshing to see a younger person digging the mighty VH. So I couldn't help but put my own 2 cents into the conversation as I was standing nearby waiting to try on a pair of Chucks: I said: "Yeah, that's great. Fair Warning aint a bad album either!

" The kid goes: "That's my second favorite!"

I was impressed!!!!

Yet again MORE proof there is HOPE for humanity!

I remember my first pair of Chuck Taylor's.

That's cool. It's strange, but you just don't think that many people of that age group would be into Van Halen. Perhaps it's an indication of where VH's stature will be in 10 years. Like when I was 15 and knew about Led Zeppelin, even though they were retired by then. Hopefully VH is filtering down to the younger generation and VH will be spoken of in Zeppelin-like terms when they are finally finished (a long time from now of course

).

It is obvious that this a very intelligent young man. He must be the president of the school council at his place of learning!

Hopefully he will rub off on his peers when the Mighty Van Halen hits the scene here shortly and they give them their full support.

GLENN I think people do already consider VH in the same vein as LZ.

I've been wearing Chuck Taylor hightops for years....(and it wasn't too long ago, when I used to put "Van Halen" on the side of my shoes too

) So I thought it was great to see this kid doing what I used to do. Hell I even made a pair of red ones into a Red and Whit Stripe sneaker once!...

I think there is hope for our youth yet!.... I meant to post this news earlier this week, but never got to it till now.

If the reunion works out and is as huge as hooped. I would love to see Converse sign Eddie to a deal and market the red/white/black striped sneakers.
They would be a huge hit with the skateboarders and such.

Don't feel bad I wear nothing but New Balance or asics. I guess that really makes me un-cool.

No worries...I wear Nikes as well. And Doc Martins and Timberlands...I just happen to have a soft spot for Chuck Taylors. I love 'em...

I agree, if the reunion happens, it would be cool as hell to have Eddie work out a deal with Converse...BUT they better have the reunion soon! Apparently Chuck Taylor is in trouble and going out of business soon...That's one of the reasons I went out to buy a new pair.

Um, Converse won't be making any business deals with ANYONE for a while.

Those of you that missed is back in January, Converse filed for Chapter 11 and is in the process of laying off 1,000 and moving it's entire production to Asia to attempt to cut costs.

No word what this means for the shoe lineups, but I wouldn't be shocked if some lines are discontinued because of this.

Yeah. I've never owned a pair of Chuck's, but it's one of those things you can't imagine not existing. Kind of like an icon.
