Been searching the sight today for the first time in quite awhile and am surprised to see much info, specs, and banter about Mr. Cherone. Please, please no more. Sammy said it best. The record bombed. And I say hes always been a mediocre vocalist at best and a fatally huge mistaken direction for the van halen boys to make so lets put this shit to rest pleeeeaaaasssseeee. If they wanna go without sammy or dave then I say go with someone off the street. Make it brand new and revamp the whole project, take a chance I say, hell, Eddie sang in the early days, let em' do it again or at least do instrumentals. At this point anything would awaken this slowly sinkin ship, quicken this lifeless pulse.

Cherone was cool in Extreme and I didn`t care for him at all in VH mainly because of the direction the band went but I think that was mainly Eds fault not Garys he was just following orders .
You may think I`m being mean but I`m really just being sarcastic

Bullshit he's a mediocre vocalist. Listen to Extreme's Pornograffiti or III Sides and you'll discover that Gary has fucking awesome pipes! Everyone involved in VH3 has called it an abberation and a mistake. Blaming Cherone for that album is the wrong thing to do.

Gary's vocals are outstanding. He sounded like crap on "III" because Ed *made* him sing that way. Ed admitted it in one of his last, if not his last, interview with "Guitar World". He said if you wanted to blame anyone for Gary sounding like he did on the album, you could blame him.

Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

Hey, VH3 sucked also because Ed's solos sucked on almost every song. That's a fact. On Josephina, I heard CC called and said he wanted his solo back. Dirty Water Dog, I make up better solos on that song. The fact is, VH3 was an all-around bad effort by everyone involved. Where was Al? Where was Mikey?? What happened to Eddie's solo. And Gary, well he tried to sound like Sammy. He sang out of his range. Period, the end.

Gary Cherone is one of my favorite vocalists. The only time he has sounded bad was on VH3. Listen to "Three Sides To Every Story" by Extreme if you want to here the man sing. He can sing so many different styles. He sounds rockin' on TOJ's CD...singing in a different style than I've ever heard him.

They did precisely all of the above. It's called Van Halen III. Apparently you didn't like your own suggestion.

I picked up "Exit Elvis" last night and listened to it today. Man, this stuff is such a breath of fresh air in the idst of all the crap that's out there right now.

I've had the sampler for close to a year now, plus some live bootleg TOJ material (radio and club gigs), but I've been waiting for the entire album, and it was worth the $$$ I spent. Very eclectic and ethereal.

Once again, Gary was forced to sing that way, by Ed himself ! Ed said so in his last interview with Guitar World. Gary even told a buddy of mine who lives and goes to college back East, when he was still in the band and working on the new material, that he would *definitely* be singing in his natural voice on the next album, regardless of "who" wanted what.

    F. Kato

I've noticed that Kato supporters tend to be hardcore Ed-tards and Van Halen fascistas -- it fits in with the whole mentality that Ed is God and the band can do little to no wrong. If E. Van Heineken said Gary could be part of Howdy Doody Mountain, that's all they need to hear. These are the same people who will argue till they're blue in the face that Van Halen is actually a fan-friendly band.

    Again: F. Kato

And when do we get to hear Ed's riffing on the tuba?

    Great post

While I was a bit disappointed with the "electronica" treatments given to Gary's vocals, Cherone's latest work is nothing short of phenominal.
