can someone confirm what i read a long time ago....i dont know how acurate this is.

i remember reading an interview possibly with dave or ed around 85' about the work that was done on the 5150 album with dave.

i thought i remember reading he wrote and/or recorded vocals on half or less than half of the album.

nyone know any truth to this or remember something close to this being said by one of these guys. i coulda sworn i did along time ago. if so did dave recieve any royalties from the 5150 recording ? do you think some recorded demos exist with dave on vocals.

this is one thing that always crosses my mind and swear i read this way back.

From what I understand, Dave had HEARD some of the music that the band was working on, but they never recorded anything with him. I think I read he was still busy with his solo EP stuff, and didn't want to write/record a whole new record before going out on tour; he just wanted to go straight to the road, which the band wasn't to keen on.

Glenn?? You probably know more about it than the band does...

I've read that Dave worked on Summer Nights, Good Enough and a song called Eat Thy Neighbor.

True or not, I don't know, but one thing is for sure, Eat Thy Neighbor is an awesome song title.

In Dave's book he said they had recorded most of the material for 5150 (vocals and all). That was one of the reasons he was so bitter when he left - because Van Halen basically had an album done with Dave (music) - so when Sammy came in, they had to lay down the vocals - so when Dave started the EAS band - he had to start from ground zero.

However - I think Sammy wrote the lyrics for 5150; meaning they probably had songs good to go from Dave; kept the music and Sammy wrote new lyrics.

I'm 99.9% certain Sammy wrote all the lyrics for the album 5150. Much of the music WAS already there before Sam joined. But as far as the lyrcs that we know and have one our copies of 5150: They're all Sam's.

summer nights, has david lee roths credits in the guitar anthology credits david lee roth
and the other songs dave wrote too but sammy reworked the songs to sams style this is easy to see in the songs. change of how its worded.
but anyway david lee is credited with summer nights hot that is

5150 sounds significantly like original Van Halen.

    The albums that follow don't.

I've heard that 5150 was largely completed before Sammy arrived - though I don't know to what extent Roth had made a contribution.

I can see Dave singing all the 5150 songs except "Dreams" that seems a little too wussy for Dave.

I think Dave doesn't tune as good on slow ballads as Sammy

John Corabi got writing credits and money for his work on Motley Crue's Generation Swine album.

But maybe Corabi is more of a song writer than Roth. Probably - especially since he plays guitar.

Maybe a future 5150 release will credit Dave's contribution - if he had any.

I remember the Rolling Stone article from 86 vaguely...I do remember Ed said Sammy came in,"improvised a lyric," and "we all thought 'fuckin' A...here we go!'"

I do recall that Summer Nights was done with Dave...almost sure of that...
