I was disappointed and shocked, and at the same time felt like wringing Craig Parker's neck, whoever he is.
I was wondering if anyone here attended the show or any other Roth show, and was wondering if Dave can still cut the mustard.
I always thought the DLR band album was more than proof, but I am pissed yet curious at this fucker's review of Dave.
Wanting cold hard facts, from real Van Halen fans...thanks
p.s. I don't know if this has been brung up before, I just wanted to know from someone who has seen him, or saw the Bumbershoot...FUCK THE DUMB SHIT!!!!

I saw it, and I thought it was an excellent show. Good attendance, and Dave definitely looked and sounded great. My only real complaint is that he played 95% Van Halen tunes and only two of his solo tunes (Yankee Rose and Tobacco Road). I think playing a few more of his solo tunes would have given him a bit more credibility, but that's a minor complaint.
Other people who attended the same show in Seattle were Chelle, diamondD, DOA, Nerf Herder, FORD, lance watts, and 5150subaru. There may be others but those are all that I can remember right now!

Yes, I was there. The best time I had all year!
I can't believe someone didn't like the show. You would litterally have to be Sammy Haggar's boyfriend to not like Dave's show.
I really didn't think he had it in him, but he did. The concert was a real pick-up and I left there praying for a Van Halen reunion. If that was only one fourth of the band, then the Full Magambi will be incredable.
I brought a bunch of non-Van Halen fans, and they loved it too. Dave was incredable. The crowd loved him, and chicks were even taking off there tops.
If you read a bad review, just ignore it. It has to be an exception."The last singer was a singer, I am THE singer" - DLR

I can't believe $tark$ posted that piece of shit review. This "Craig Parker" jackass was an intern from a local radio station who was pissed because he didn't get to hang out with Dave backstage. So he totally falsified this fucked up review. The radio station recieved angry e-mails and phone calls for 2 weeks.

I'd like to put forth the notion that it wouldn't be rock and roll if EVERYBODY liked it!

DLR Bumbershoot concert review - 9/2/2001
By Craig Parker
It is a question we have all asked ourselves in one form or another: if I were to pass from this earth and cross over to the other side, would I be arisen on the third day? It is a question of special import, however, to one David Rothstein. Because I saw David Lee Roth's performance last night at Bumbershoot in Seattle and I can assure you, Diamond Dave's career is officially dead.
Sure, technically, those were Van Halen songs being sung. Those were Van Halen notes played and those were Van Halen lyrics. But that is as far as the noncomparison goes. I've watched Van Halen alive with three different lead singers, four if you want to count Eddie's Tom Waits imitation. I've seen things. Okay, maybe not attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion, but still-things. I've seen the 1984 tour: the acrobatics, the bawdiness, the wonderful mayhem. And I can tell you, Dan Quayle was no Jack Kennedy and David Lee Roth has no business purporting to be the lead singer of Van Halen.
Let us not point out the shortcomings of David's performance, the sheer number of which could fill Memorial Stadium (something, by the way, he did not come close to doing last night). Rather, let us discuss the crowd's reaction to the show. There was higher energy on a good day at that dive downtown Seattle Public Library that there was at the Bumbershoot concert. The performance was so bad.David's girlfriend left halfway through the show. I have not seen crowd lethargy like that since Flo & Eddie upstaged Steven Stills at the Paramount. David would finish a song and the crowd looked like the audience after "Springtime for Hitler": stunned, shallow, alone. Rather than engaging the crowd, David pontificated about some mythical Geneen and his own Herculean efforts to clean the horse stables as a youngster. Instead of regaling the crowd, he bored them. And in place of entertaining the crowd, he drove them to the exits.
It was a question that begged to be answered, and now we know that a terrible decision was once made. There have been many bad decisions made in rock. #1 is the executive genius who declined to sign The Beatles to a recording contract. #2 would be the first gun purchased by Terry Kath. And somewhere in the top ten is David Lee Roth walking down his spiral staircase to fire Eddie Van Halen from his own band. For on that day, in that moment, a terrific garage band was impaled on the alter of ego as it rested near the apex of the rock world. For 17 years people have argued whether Humpty Dumpty could be put back together again. And now we know the answer: redemption does not always come to those that wait. Fast Eddie Felson does not make the eight ball, Pretty Woman does not snag the rich man and David Lee Roth does not get to be the renewed lead singer of Van Halen. It is done.
Van Halen moved on, rescued by therapy to begin again with the Red Rocker and made some pretty excellent music while traversing the globe. David's career, on the other hand, descended and twisted through a nonplussed solo tour to oblivion and resurfaced in a twice-a-night Las Vegas act and now pawns itself off as some maiden-in-waiting for Eddie's recuperation. If you want, you might someday see Dave in the lounge act in Las Vegas with Willy Loman as a warm-up. You may one summer see him cruising through the cow pastures of Bottineau. You could possibly even see him one night at the Little Creek Casino in Shelton for $10 a head. But, please David, don't show your lime-green jumpsuit to Bumbershoot ever again. Jethro Tull had it oh-so-right in their prescient lyric "Too old to rock & roll, too young to die." Nobody's asking you to die, David. Just walk away. Which is exactly what a good number of the audience did, myself included-halfway through the show.
What a load of lying bullshit this review is.
I saw Dave in Philli, and the show I saw was one of the BEST shows I have ever seen, easily in my Top 10 list(BTW I have seen hundreds of Concerts, not counting the thousands of local shows I have seen).
