Which album do you think is better? 5150 was Van Halen's first #1 album and had a lot of hits (Why Can't This Be Love, Dreams, Best Of Both Worlds, Love Walks In), but I think F.U.C.K. is better. They spent more time recording it and had a great producer (Andy Johns) that influenced it to be more guitar-oriented.

Achievements:
Sometimes I think these topics are just here to make me feel wishy-washy.
I normally say that either 5150 or Balance are the best Sam era VH albums, but looking at this topic and choosing, I think I'd go with FUCK. 5150 has a bad drum sound in my opinion, and yet I don't really care for the guitar sound on FUCK. The songs on FUCK are really strong, though some are more unusual, like Pleasure Dome and Man on a Mission. Both of those songs seem almost cinematic to me, more than being straight rock songs.
Anyway, great songs on both albums, but better ones on For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.

Awards:
IMO, 5150 contained the strongest material of any of the Sammy era albums, but the production left a lot to be desired. I'm not crazy about Eddie's tone and the overall recording lacks the bite of the six previous albums.
As far as For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is concerned, this album contained some of my favorite Sammy era tunes such as Poundcake, Runaround, and The Dream Is Over. On the other hand, it contains some of the weakest Sammy era tunes, such as Pleasure Dome, In 'N Out, and Man On A Mission. The production on this album was very good.
In summary, I would go with 5150. Too bad they couldn't have had the production of For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge on the songs of 5150.

This topic involves my 2 favorite Sammy era Van Halen albums....I love the low end of F.U.C.K. (and Pleasure Dome is IMO one of the best songs they ever did that no one outside of VH Fanatics knows about)....But I think (despite the weak drums sounds) I have to go with 5150. I love that album and between that one and Fair Warning you have my 2 favorite VH Records.

I love them both dearly, but I have to go with 5150. It was my first real introduction to Van Halen (although I had heard Diver Down and 1984). To me, 5150 may not have the best sounds, but it has a vibe that I can't put words on. I may be tainted by the fact that I was 13, in love for the first time, and enjoying life more than any other time in my existence, but 5150 has a glow around it that makes it special to me. To be thorough, I think 'Inside' doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the material, but that's my opinion, and it isn't enough to sway my feelings.
FUCK, on the other hand, was out when I made the turn from 'noise maker' to 'coherent guitarist'. It was the disc that made me really start practicing, and the sounds and songs on it are generally killer. (I can do without Spanked, In n Out, and Man on a Mission, but otherwise one of my favorites)

Though FUCK was my first VH album, I'm giving this one to 5150. I can't live without Dreams or Summer Nights. Judgement Day was my fav. VH song when I first got into them.

Damn? Good question, I must say I waited for the F.U.C.K. release, which took a little extra time but well worth it I think, and for some reason I was more concerned about F.U.C.K. than 5150. 5150's great n' all but had to go with my vision or anticipation of an ablum.

I'd have to go with 5150. It's got some great songs on there such as Get Up, Summer Nights, and "5150". By the way, I don't see why everyone dosen't like the drums on 5150. There my favorite drums on all the albums.
As always, F.U.C.K. is a great album too.

This is the toughest one of theses polls so far. I love both albums and these are the two best with Sammy. I gotta give it to 5150. I just remember that album being released and thinking, ya they gonna make after all without Dave.
I also don't know why no one likes the drums on this album. I think the drums in the song "5150" kick ass. I love having the windows down in my car and jammin that song.

I love THEM all, but F.U.C.K has a special place in my heart. To quote Dave, "Damn good times."

Emotion or motion? Or are you just being creative? But I third this motion. Judgement Day and Dreams are two of my VERY favorite VH songs. Summer Night, Poundcake, Top of the World and "5150" are some of the best too
But like I already said, 5150 gets my vote
