Van Halen isn't Van Halen w/out Eddie!

Lets suppose that the just recently closed topic with Eddie not playing anymore and Vai or someone else steps in, it wouldn't be Van Halen.

Unlike when Dave or Sammy left, people said that they should change their name. It is EDDIE'S band.

No disrespect to Alex, but Ed has always been the brain behind the music and even though he is a great drummer, he only shares the name.

It would be like Chris Robinsom leaving the Black Crowes and they continued with the same name since his brother was one of the guitarists. It still wouldn't sound like The Black Crowes though would it?

Eddie drives Van Halen's sound, and Alex supports it with part of the rythm section.
It was still Van Halen's sound when Dave left, and when Sammy left.

That whole story was total bullshit, and I wish I got a chance to comment on it when it was open.

I said this in the other thread, but there will always be people on either side of the debates about when/if Van Halen should have changed their name.

But without Eddie, I can't imagine anyone thinking that the VH name should stay. No Eddie = no Van Halen IMHO!

We all know how I feel about Van Halen without Dave, but I feel the same way about Van Halen without Eddie - no way could anybody slap the name "Van Halen" on a record from that point forward in good conscience!

You know what just occured to me, this whole rumor (which again, I don't believe) sounds like it could be written off of what happened with the Beach Boys when Brian Wilson got squirrelly (that's the technical term for it [img]smilies/wink.gif[/img]). Brian continued to work behind the scenes on writing and arranging etc while the band went out on tour without him.

The comparisons between EVH and Brian Wilson are pretty obvious in a lot of areas, but I'm just yapping, don't mind me. [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

But seriously, the name Van Halen is closely associated with the sound of the band. Ed has to be in the mix somewhere....
