This is one of Daves best sets of lyrics imo. Right there with simple rhyme.

She comes like the secret wind...
Note to Van Hagar fans: this is how you do a "ballad" or a "love" song and still make it rock. No synthesizers, no "just like an alien" crappy lyrics, this is rock and roll.

I like Secrets. Nice vibe, solo, lyrics.

Awesome tune. Definitely one of their most underrated. Dave at his cool-rockin' best.
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne
"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello
"There is no heir to the throne of Eddie Van Halen. Nobody sits on that throne. Nobody takes that throne. Here's why it's different with Eddie: when a great guitar player passes, you just move on to another, right? But in this case, Eddie wasn't just a 'guitar player'. We're talking about a guy who changed culture and how we play guitar. He was like an alien coming in and fucking everything up so much that even the legends beforehand are like, 'Okay .. what is happening here? What sorcery is this?'" -Nuno Bettencourt

Out on the wire, I hear you callin'
So clear, yet a million miles away.
I start to feel it now, slips away somehow.
Out on the roadside I'm stopped by a daydream
Caught a glimpse from the corner of my eye
Like a ghost I see you there silently.

Those are awesome lyrics Stuff.
Secrets is an average song IMO. Dave's much better at writing hard rockers than ballads.

I can't stand rap....people who can't sing do rap....you can sing rebellion as well as talk it....Hitler would have been in a rap band...

All you have to do is look over in the left hand column here to see how I feel about this song.
This is one song that I would definitely like to hear Van Halen perform live one more time, but realistically feel that there is little or no chance of seeing that happen, even if the boys get back together and make another tour happen.
Thank God there is the video from the Buenos Aires, Argentina show in 1983 to keep the spirit of this song alive.
Why do I like this song so much?? I was a junior in high school when Diver Down came out. I was on the track team, and Lord have mercy what a beautiful girl there was on one of our rival track teams. Girl by the name of Michelle, I will never forget her, and every time I hear this song, this is who I think of.
A side story about the lyrics to this song, DLR once said that the majority of the lyrics to this song came from a greeting card he picked up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Who knows where inspiration will come from next, eh??
The opening to this song gets me every time, the melody, lyrics, etc. then carry me on to the beautiful end.
If only Van Halen with David Lee Roth could create some magic for us one more time. . . .one can only wish and dream.

Now don't get me wrong, I really dig Secrets. It's got a good, laid back vibe that works well back to back with Summer Nights on one of those warm afternoons when you have the windows rolled down and are going above 50.
It's far from my favorite Dave tune, but it is one that I'd always include in a collection of songs that is supposed to be "typical Dave" stuff."Just once I'd like to do the right thing and not get punished for it."

Secrets and Summer Nights back to back on a warm afternoon in the car?? Not bad. Makes me wish we weren't just starting winter around here.
Summer Nights is always one of those that gets me caught singing in the car from someone pulled up next to me. "Oh well" I think. "I sound good to me!"

Different kind of sexy, but how about the spoken interlude during "Everybody Wants Some"?

Bro, that's awesome you mention Nuno's style is like Brian May. I'm sure thats who he exactly listened to growing up and when VH came along it really solidified his future ambition on guitar.
