How about a VH Forum Jam? (Group listings and order on Pg. 6)

I thought that it would be a cool idea if all us guitar players here at VH Links got a backing track together, recorded our solo spots, and had a good old fashioned jam, kind of like they do over at Guitars 101. Who's up for it?

What song, or will it be improv?

It'll just be a backing track and we'll all just improvise a solo over it. It doesn't necessarily have to be a particular song.

Basically, here's how it works:
1) Somebody finds a good backing track for soloing over and posts the mp3.
2) Everybody who wants to be involved in the jam signs up in the thread. (usually 4-6 people I think.)
3) Everybody is assigned a time frame to play their solo. (ex: 0:00 - 1:12)
4) After the first person records their solo over the backing track using recording software, they extract it as an mp3 and send it to the next participant. The second person then records their solo, sends it to the next person, and so on...
5) Once everybody adds their solo, the final product is then posted on the thread and we all comment on each other's parts. (Positively, of coarse )

How about this: Everyone is assigned their timeframe, each records his part along with the backing track--but on a seperate track--and all the independent tracks are sent to one person who mixes the final version (making zero modifications to any of the solos, just balancing levels). That way multiple generations of MP3s don't have to be passed along the way, and no one feels any competition with the previous guy(s). Or is that the point?

Well that's a good idea, but if someone gets off by a few seconds or something it's gonna throw the whole thing off. And there could be people stepping on each other, by accident of course.
