Well, I've gone and done it now...new 5150 III halfstack in black arriving at my house this Friday...pics and tone report to follow.

Thanks guys...I used to own a 5150 II a couple of years ago...now I have a Komet 60, a Komet Concorde and a Divided By 13 FTR37. The amp head with cabinet was $3,200.00 delivered.

Wow!! That's crazy. In '92 I paid $900.00 for the 5150 head and slanted cabinet. Talk about breakin' the bank, Damn.

Well a lot has happened in 15 years!! I don't feel TOO bad...the Komets are pushing 4k for the head alone!!

im planning on joining the club of 5150III owners in a few weeks, I've got to wait to grap a paycheck or two to make sure I've got enough scrill in reserve, let us know when you get it how it compares to the 5150 II you had, I had a II and Im wondering how the 3rd channel compares to the normal lead on the first series of 5150 amps...

Yeah, me too...and I'm happy enough with it. Although I'm very interested to hear how this thing compares to the 5150 and 5150 II. I was hoping we would all have had a LIVE sample from Eddie by now...but...you know.....

I'm SURE the 5150 III is a great amp, and it probably has something different to offer beyond the first two, as it was designed by different people. Hell, it even LOOKS fuckin' cool. (White tolex! )

I'm having a hard time with the price still, however. mikelong cited the price tag for the head and one cab at $3,200. I paid less than that (about $3,000 total) for: my original 5150 head, my 5150 slant cab, my 5150 straight cab, my 5150 II head, my 5150 212 combo, and my TWO Marshall JCM 900 1960B cabs. Granted, I bought most of those things used (only the original 5150 head and 5150 slant cab were purchased new), and a few years have passed since the 5150 amps were on the mass market. But for a Mexican-made amp and cab, that's just too much. It starts to venture into Soldano or boutique amp territory, and quite frankly I'd rather own one of those--made in the USA and with a lifetime warranty.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to own a 5150 III, but until they're showing up on the used market for half the price (we shall see if that ever happens), I'll not be making any plans.
