Default VHs Best album was never released!!!

This is a big call, but I'm standing firm. Although "5150" is my fave VH album, I reckon it would'nt of been my fave if Sammy had of stayed on after "Humans being". What I'm saying is that the best VH album was never done!!!!
Basiccly during "Balance" Sammy was at his writing peak and the band were playing never better, not just musiccly but the production on that album was amazing, (its my 2nd fave album). I reckon if Bruce Fairbain and Irwin Musper stayed on for an album for 2007, we would of gotten VH's "Saergant peppers".

On "Marching to mars" Sammy was at the top of his game, and hes said that some parts of songs on that album were going to be used for the new VH album.

It amazes me what could've happened. I remember Sammy talking to Bert Newton on "Good morning australia" here in 98 how he wanted to make VHs version of "Seargant peppers", Sammy wanted to experiment and go one further.

What could've been and what a great shame.
What is understood need not be discussed

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977

I will agree, but who knows, it could have just easily been that cluster fuck of an album in III. I will most certainly agree that Balance was a great sounding album. Everything was so crisp and Ed got away from the overly processed sound he used on FUCK. Sam was never better in my opinion excepy we did of course have two songs titled with Love in it, which gets old real fast IMO.

I agree. They were headed somewhere really interesting. Very sad.

A friend of mine once said that Humans Being was so good, it was like they were trying to compensate for the crappiness of Twister.

I was bored by Balance. I guess it sounded good, production-wise, but it mostly bored me.

The song Humans Being got me re-interested in Van Halen again...alas, yes I was a fan from 1978 until I heard 5150 for the first time...for me the band, and its sound had changed too much. Occasionally I'd hear a song like 'Black and Blue and just shake my head about what happened to them...then some songs off of F.U.C.K. were alright...never heard Balance, past the Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do (which now that I've heard the whole CD...is probably amoung one of the worst choices for a single)...anywho...Humans Being really signaled a new, fresh musical direction for them...which they followed with Me Wise Magic; so I do think you have a point....for the record I just ignore VH III.

I did like the direction VH was going in with 'Humans Being', 'Me Wise Magic' and 'You Can't Get This Stuff No More'. Balance was an OK album for me. I prefer more rockers and more up tempo songs. Balance had some but that was all.

As for Bruce Fairburn in 2007, unfortunately that won't happen since he died sometime back.

I liked the direction that they were going in with those songs as well. "Humans Being" gives off the most energy of those three songs Imo. I could listen to that song over and over all day long. It depends on my mood, but most of the time I also prefer more up tempo songs.

Bruce Fairbairn died in 1998. He had a falling out with VH during the "Twister" work--something to do with writing credits. And there was a lawsuit involved (which I believe VH won). Glen Ballard was brought on to finish "Between Us Two," which was to be the VH ballad-type song for the Twister soundtrack. The VH brothers weren't happy with either of the vocal tracks Sammy sang for it, and Jan de Bont (director of Twister) ended up hearing "Respect The Wind" and wanted that instead.

Ballard was set to produce III until his obligation to Alanis Morisette kicked in. Maybe III (and VH) would have turned out differently had Ballard overseen it. We'll never know...

Sammy wasn't at the top of his game lyrically during 'Balance." Cf. "Amsterdam," "Can't Stop Loving You" and "Not Enough." There's problems with the lyrics on that album, becoz the Bros wanted to go in a more serious direction, and Sammy didn't. The paradox is that after being kicked out of the band, Sammy penned awesome lyrics for "Marching to Mars." Can't fault any lyrics on MTM. Conclusion: when he's really pissed off, Sam writes really great lyrics!

Little dreamer, your right on!!!! Marching to Mars was/is Sammys best writing and it stemmed from anger, and his interviews at that time were his best and most OPEN ever.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...welcome to the world of Van Halen!!!

btw, saying the next album would have been their Sgt. Pepper's is a bit of a reach. Their next album may have been their Abbey Road or Let It Be.
