Default Def Leppard VH mention on Rockline

Interesting to hear Joe Elliott of Def Leppard on Rockline mention VH during a discussion of todays music industry. He mentioned how Candlebox opened for VH and was able to sell 3 million records and that their 2nd album, while he thought was better, did not sell near the amount of the first. He said that Candlebox didn't have a VH tour to go out and open for.

i know this isn't rock, but i remember run dmc being on tour, and they had "some group" named dj jazzy jeff and the fresh prince opening for them... they got major rotation on a couple of singles... wonder how that fresh prince is doing these days...

3 Milion records? VH would kill to sell that many records nowadays!

Yeah but they'd have to actually make records before worrying about how many are sold. At least Joe and the guys are having a go at it. Looking forward to seeing them again!

Believe it or not, his partner jazzy is a fairly well respected producer these days...then again, he is employed in the field of "hip hop", so how much of an accomplishment can that be?

I agree.....one good, solid, hard-rockin' single, with the correct line-up, and it could happen again.

Speaking of Candlebox, didn't they implode after that first album, and two of the guys quit? I remember they played a local bar in Fayetteville and they had already replaced those guys. And if I'm not mistaken, Candlebox was the first signee to Madonna's Maverick label. At any rate, that was a great album.

Jazzy's also doing DJ gigs....there's one coming up soon in Charlotte, at a club (Amos' South End) that has been trying to get him to appear for two years, according to a story I read yeserday.

Wasn't that the Beastie Boys, or did they just open for her?

One wonders if she did the same for them.

I think the Beasties were on Def Jam, or Def America, or something Def like that.....could be wrong, though.

When did Candlebox open for VH? Never did when they came around here.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

BOBW went Platinum and eveyone had most of those songs. I'd say an album of new material with Dave equals at least triple platinum.

I wonder if Joe got them confused with Collective Soul ? I used to mix them up all the time.

ok IMO Hysteria was their best CD... think VH could put out a CD with the same effort, preplanned hit list ?? ( they knew they most songs were going to top the charts ) Think Master Ed has that in him?
Sam, Dave,Gary... who cares. its all about what makes you feel good.
