The Worst Career Moves of All Time: Rock Lawsuits We’d Like to See

You may have heard about Motley Crue’s recent lawsuit against the manager of drummer Tommy Lee. The best part: Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars allege that Lee’s participation in the reality shows Tommy Lee Goes To College and Rock Star: Supernova “diminished the public’s interest in Lee and their overall perception of his musical talents.” In other words, they’re suing him for making bonehead career moves.

The implications of this are staggering. What other terrible business decisions are worth a lawsuit? We expect to see these cases following soon — feel free to add yours.

Every Hard Rock Fan Alive v. The Van Halen Brothers
Back Story: When Sammy Hagar was fired from Van Halen in 1996, The Van Halen Brothers at first brought David Lee Roth back into the fold – even cutting two new songs with him. But when it came time for a new album and tour, they dumped Diamond Dave in favor of former Extreme singer Gary Cherone. The result was the crappiest Van Halen album ever, and a poorly attended tour. Eleven years later we’re still waiting for Dave to come back.
Charge: Recklessly choosing Mr. “More Than Words” when Roth was willing to come back.
    Verdict: Guilty of reunion negligence.
Punishment: The Van Halen brothers are now forbidden from touring without Roth on lead vocals and Michael Anthony on bass.

Maybe a sign? Atleast they are getting some publicity.

Yep, I would have to join that class action suit. Mr Roth deserves a class action suit too for leaving the band and "diminishing the public’s interest in VH and their overall perception of both his and their musical talents." But with a reunion tour and album all wrongs can be forgiven.

Not exactly correct as public interest in VH skyrocketed after DLR left the band.

As for Rolling Stoned, isn't it correct that Cherone had been hired prior to DLR recording the new songs? If that is a case RS is rewriting history (not a first for that rag, as facts seem to never be important in their reporting) by stating that when it came time for a new album and tour they went with Cherone. If the band decided to tour with Roth in '96 they would of been dumping Gary in favor of Roth. Not the other way around.

Back Story: When Sammy Hagar was fired from Van Halen in 1996, The Van Halen Brothers at first brought David Lee Roth back into the fold – even cutting two new songs with him. Sadly, it doesn't take much to file a complaint. Pretty much all you need it a decent argument for the plaintiff (whether real or not) and a check for the filing fee (usually under $100.00). I haven't read the Crue complaint through but on it's face it looks pretty weak. I used to get assigned to work complaints from plaintiff's attorneys that could have been written better by a high schooler. Turns out that most of these guys churn out complaints by the ream, hoping that some will stick - most get dismissed.

I've got a good one for Ed and Co. - maybe they could sue the people responsible for their current situation. How about EVH vs. EVH - he could save some cash by representing himself - LOL.

Did Vince Neil forget that he was on some reality show? Seems like he has been on more than one. Wasn't he on something with Gary Coleman or Webster or something. I also remember some show where they were updating his look and debuting a new solo song at some vegas pool party. Memory is a little fuzzy but I'm pretty sure he has done a couple of shows.
