Indeed it is the reason I enjoy YouTube now. I saw pictures and heard about the Fram Aid show for years, finally saw a clip of it tonight.

Fram Aid is a benefit show put on every year in Detroit. Their goal is to raise money to help buy new air and oil filters for those who cannot afford them. It's all about keeping the cars running well.

Brings back a painful memory.

I had tix to this show. Was PRIMED and PUMPED. But the morning of the event, due to a set of extenuating circumstances (that I'd rather not go into because my therapist says that after 20 years it's time to "let it go"), I wasn't able to go.

Ended up watching it through tear stained eyes on the Nashville Network--until Sammy's potty mouth got the live broadcast pulled. Still got those tickets somewhere.

But I'm over it now. Yes I'm...over it...now...

Crap, where's my therapist's number?

My bro was there. He was a sophomore in Champaign (University of Illinois). Gotta suck going to see that show. First time Eddie and Sammy on a stage. Wow, I still get chills.

I stayed up all night waiting for them to come on. They hit the stage some time between 10:45 & 11:00. I was in eigth grade. I was lucky enough to see them the next summer (5150 tour). Lou Reed was on that Bill. I remember when he sang Walk on the Wild Side because my Mom about shit her pants when she heard him sing about "head". I got a bit scared thinking she might not let me watch the rest of it.

It wasn't MTV that originally broadcast the show. They were there, but the concert footage was from The Nashville Network (TNN). I'm not sure if that cable station exists any more. It changed names a few times afterwords. Might have been the precursor to CMT.

They did Rock and Roll, then went into Wild Thing. But because Sammy was cussing, they didn't show Wild Thing. I've looked for a copy or a recording of the version of Wild Thing they did there for years, but I've had no luck.

I remember the were inteviewing B.B. King after Ed's performance. They ask B.B. what he thought of Ed and he said "I've never heard anything like it. Ever."

I had thought for years that it was Eddie's potty mouth that had gotten their performance pulled from the air. I didn't see the show but had read that right before his guitar solo, Eddie said something into his microphone like, "Check this wild sh!* out you country motherfu@%ers."

I think it was Sammy. I seem to remember him doing an intro into "55'" that went something like that..."this is for all you crazy MFers out there...you know I can't drive..." and then the broadcast went dead.
