High Action w/non-floating Floyd
Hey Guys,
Semi-Unique situation here, which is why I decided to make a new thread rather than search through hundreds of past threads.
Anyways, I have a self made VH I replica that I constructed from unfinished parts. I put a floyd on it but I mounted it directly onto the body like Edward did with his frankie. (No extra routing into the body to bring it down) The action is very high for some reason, moreso higher up on the neck. I double checked everything and made sure the nut was securely screwed down at the correct height and I even tried a minor truss rod adjustment. I made sure the anchor screws were as low as possible, as well. Any idea of what I should do next? Or what the problem could potentially be? Thanks in advance guys and your help is much appreciated!

Yes. Unfortunately throwing random parts together--even if manufactured to exact "specs"--is not a perfect science. And if the neck truss rod is in check and the bridge height is set as it should be, shimming the neck will probably be the best thing to take care of the problem.

i agree with the other posters here, when i built my own i had a similar problem so i dropped in a couple of old plectrums i had to hand maybe not the ideal use for a pick but it worked great for me, just make sure u get them at the back of the neck pocket nearest to where the neck humbucker would be this in turn "back angles" the neck and should help out the high action, once you've done this and if its worked make sure to re-check and ajust your intonation and the rest of your setup.

You basically shimmed the neck, but used a pick instead of the normal wood or metal plate. I've seen everything used from picks, business cards, cardboard, brass plates, etc.
Like Ed said "if it sounds good, it is good". Here it is "If it works, it works".
As far as the original problem, I am going through a simliar experience where the neck pocket angle is wrong for a flush mount FR. So, fingers crossed, Im tryin to have a pro with a CNC route the neck at a slightly more conducive angle. If that doesn work, well
I will let you know if anything that I get out of my experience will benefit you or just PM me if want. Good luckLast edited by LypsLynch55; 06.18.07 at 07:54 PM. Reason: Accidentally hit 'enter' too soon
