Do Your Friends Think Your Nuts?
Do your friends think your nuts for liking Van Halen? The guys and gals I work with think it's a little crazy that I like VH so much, just wandering if any of you are running into the same problem?

I've been taking shit about it for so long now I'm accustomed to it. My buddies are always busting my balls about VH. My chick friends laugh whenever the subject of VH comes up, usually followed by "Oh my god, I can't believe you still listen to them." Lol.... I'm so used to it that I just laugh.
My sister loves VH, but other than that I don't think I've ever met a chick that liked/knew/cared about Van Halen in any way, shape, or form. I don't know what I'd do if I ever came across a honey that had a VH CD in her car. It's never happened..
.
.
VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

I have a cousin who is more like a brother, loves the rock n' roll music just like we do, but has never been more than a "casual" VH fan (never thought Mark II was legit ). He doesn't necessarily think I'm nuts, because my fondness for VH has waned over the last fifteen years, but every so often he'll say something along the lines of....."You still hangin' out in that Van Halen chat room?"
The funniest thing is, he totally "gets" it when it comes to VH, and he doesn't have to own all of the product or spend time daily reflecting on VH. He's thrown out such gems as "Ed needs Dave. Ed plays meaner with Dave. Dave brings out the best in Eddie." And most recently, my personal favorite, "Well, if Mike's gone then there is no Van Halen."

DD, I can totally relate. My core group of friends likes VH (not as much as I do of course). But a few of my buddies bust my balls as well. I've taken some crap for from the ladies for "still being a fan," especially after all these years of nothing from the band. It's difficult to find a chick that's into VH or still listens to them. A few friends know that I hang out in this VH chatroom, but I don't think they know how often I'm here.
Back in '04 when my then-girlfriend told her girlfriends that she was coming with me to a VH show, they all laughed and made fun of her a little. (I went to one show with her, and one show with my buds--I'm sure I don't have to tell you which show I had more fun at... )

They need to experience it for themselves to really understand the music. Otherwise, they are clueless.
Respects.

I will fully accept the title of "smartass" for this one. The "your" / "you're" mix-up drives me crazy, mainly because I actually read the word as it is defined, not how it sounds. So I'll sometimes have to re-read the simplest of sentences just because I didn't understand it the first time around. (And now that I'm getting older and more grumpy, I bitch about it.)

I took a lot of heat for being a rabid VH fan in high school. I thought that people who didn't think VH was awesome just hadn't heard enough of it. But if time has taught me anything it's that there are a LOT of different types of people out there, and one person's shit is another person's treasure, and so forth. I like introducing my guitar students to Van Halen, and I've got a couple of friends who are also big-time fans. I generally keep quiet about them otherwise (except when cranking whatever VH CD is in my car at the time, however.)

That's true-- Sam included. In 2015, he's on video saying "Fuck you, Eddie Van Halen. You're a liar." Then just a few years later he has a loving texting relationship with the guy. But I gotta say...
