    Default Reissues 2008? [Speculation]

Well, everyone wants a new album next year or 2009, or at least some people, but we all know what happened in 2000. They can't get along in the studio. What if they decided to reissue all of their albums 78-95? Forget about VH3. No one would care. Do you guys think that this would be a good idea? I think it would, as an alternative to a new album or (the worst possible idea) ANOTHER greatest hits with 2-3 new songs. Obviously they would tour off of this "reissue" series.

Meh. I've already got the first six remastered. All that I need is 5150 through 3.

Jesus Christ, I think I'd have to pass on the reissue plan. I would like Sam era remasters, but there is no way in hell I'm buying ANOTHER reissue of the Dave era stuff, or another greatest hits package in any way.
If they've got new material packaged with some old shit, I'll download it from Itunes. I can't see where these would be a good way to bolster a tour, either?
    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.

I'd buy the Sammy era reissues. But a III reissiue wouldn't be worth the CD it was printed on.

They do need to remaster 5150 and OU812 at least. A 30th Anniversary package, if anything, would need to be a box set with everything, plus rarities, demos, outtakes, lots of art and photos, and perhaps even a DVD with rare videos. This is very much just a dream for VH fans, as we have never been given any indication that anything of the kind will ever be released. But it would be very cool...

They can always do what Genesis is doing. The CD / SACD releases with the bonus DVD. What they're doing is absolutely perfect, IMO. VH should do that...

    ...but probably won't.

It would be asinine. It’s the same as releasing a Greatest Hits Vol. 3.

That was last July (2000) and since then I haven't been up to the studio, we haven't really been in touch and we haven't made any music, but I am holding forth, I'm in the shape of my life and I got the high note - I'm ready to go.

The Roth era remasters that came out a few years ago are sonically perfect, imo. There's absolutely no reason to remaster/reissue those first 6 albums on cd again unless as it's been as mentioned above, that they come out on SACD, something which there is now probably a zero chance of happening as the format is almost dead already.

The Hagar era cds, obviously 5150 and OU812 would benefit greatly from remastering. Even F.U.C.K. could use seom minor tinkering as the tracks onthe 2 cd Best Of sound noticably richer than the original album.

In fact, while I normally am not in favor of a band or record company going back and tinkering with the original mix and production of an album, I wouldn't mind hearing a completely new mix from the multi-track source tapes of the first two Hagar era albums. However, I doubt Warner Bros (or Eddie) would want to invest the time or effort at this point.

The only way it would make sense to re-issue the Van HALEN albums again is if they made a box set similar to the Grateful Dead's "Golden Road" box set, which contains their entire WB catalog.

Each remastered album contained enough bonus material to (in most cases) double the length of the original albums. Since all 6 of the Van HALEN albums were well under 40 minutes, this could be done easily with their catalog also. Unreleased tracks, alternate mixes, live stuff, whatever it takes to fill out the time.

The Dead also included a 2 disc set of demos and live performances from 65-67 before they signed with WB. The hardcore Van HALEN fans know damn well that a 2 disc set of this type would be easy to assemble. They could probably do 2 discs on the demos alone, if they include the complete Gene Simmons demo, the early Cherokee Studios demo, and the WB demo from 1977. And then, there are a few quality soundboard recordings from the club days which could be given a professional remastering and included as well.

As for the Van Hagar remasters, they can do it or not do it. I don't care, as long as they leave it OUT of my Van HALEN box set.

Black Sabbath kept the Ozzy years and the Dio years separate when they did the box sets. There's no reason why Van Halen can't do the same. Even though I still would have bought a Sabbath box set with Dio in it, it's just the right thing to do when you have two different bands, which is what they were.

I don't own a Fleetwood Mac boxset (if there is one) but I would hope they kept the Peter Green and Stevie Nicks eras seperate, as they're two different bands.

Some people like both bands in each case, others don't. BTW, the common thread with all these bands?

All signed to Warner Brothers records. Want to know why they never changed their name when the band changed so drastically?

Ask Prince. He tried to release a record on another label and found out he couldn't use his own name. Doesn't matter if it's on his birth certificate. Or Eddie's. Or Alex's. Or Mick Fleetwood's. Or John MacVie's. One of those funny little things WB wrote into the fine print.......

Er, what the fuck was I talking about again?

Actually, Ford, WB pushed for VH to change their name. You don't remember that? Eddie told 'em there was no way he'd change the name.
