Frankie Volume Pot.
I have a question for some of the pros out on this board who know loads more about Edwards tone that I ever will...
Does anyone have an idea of what type of volume pot edward used on his frankie? 250k? 500k? I don't know if Ed has ever mentioned it or a tech of his... or maybe one of you can tell just by ear. I'm just curious because I'm in the market for one to put in my VHI replica... first of all I should say that I'm going to try a Duncan Custom Custom in this one so which type of volume pot would work best? And then I may try a PAF so would the type of volume pot change depending on the certain pickup? I went to a few local guitar places today and they all recommended the 500k, but then I've heard of some people using the 250k. Any thoughts?
Thanks!!

Generally speaking, 500k pots are used for Humbuckers and 250k pots are used for single coil pickups.
I really like the Custom Custom pickups ... nice choice.
I too would recommend a 500k pot.

Ah makes sense now that I think about it. Thanks for the help bro!!
And I can't wait to try out the custom custom in my black/white frankie replica. I've painted and re wired guitars before but this one I started from scratch with all unfinished parts so I'm praying to the rock gods that this guitar turns out okay and ACTUALLY PLAYS like a half decent instrument haha.

i just had a 500k pot die in my replica and i swapped it out for a 250k the difference is negligable really, well to my ears anyway.
using a 500k pot though u may want to think about using a capacitor (40 farrad nano cap should suit)...good luckhttp://www.facebook.com/Tommywho5150

500k for the Custom Custom. It's got the treble & bass rolled-off, you need to do it again with a 250k volume pot.
The 250k volume pot trick with a humbucker is usually for people who aren't used to the snappiness of a PAF with an A5 magnet, or for people who are blunting the edge of a JB, etc.

Got a 500k with a Duncan Custom in my replica. I agree with everyone else, go with the 500.

AWESOME! Thanks guys. I ended up going with the 500k and I'm on my first coat of white after taping the guitar up, so hopefully I can post some pics of this bad boy when it's finished.
Oh hey... I used to post here a few years back all the time and I'm the guy who had the van halen style painted washroom and everyone was asking for pics after I took them down so I'll post those again soon, as well.

Yup. A 250k was a great trick for when pickups were being wound way too hot (early-80s on up to (and still)recently). Because of that, I still use a 250k in alot of my because it helps warm things up, but the difference is what your ears tell you. A 250k pot w/an EVH/'78 in a hard-ash body is where I get tonal joy to me. You would want to use 250k on singles, FWIW.
Since the Frankie is pretty easy to wire up, I would say try both and see which you like better. For $2 to $4, you cant go wrong.
