What is wrong with you guys? Sure the recent cryptic message fiasco was worth a public stoning of Brad, but now people are resigning from the boards? What a damn joke. Let me reiterate what I said a while back...even if VH never write music again, we STILL HAVE CLASSIC VH TO LISTEN TO! I'm as anxious as anyone for a Dave reunion, but I'm not going to bitch and moan if Eddie has decided to be a dad instead of a rock star for now. Support our favorite band, dammit... no matter what.

I 100% agree with you Scotty. There are too many fans that support them on a conditional basis. I have always maintained the fact that I love VH no matter who is singing and always will.

Great Post, Peace.

Just because these people are leaving the boards does not mean that they are going to discontinue supporting the band. VH will always live on in memory. People are just sick of coming to these boards in the hopes of getting some new POSITIVE information only to get (pardon the pun) kicked in the nuts. I'm not far away myself. Maybe it is just time for some of us to take a break from all this and just check in from time to time to see if there is any new news.
ExpandedConsciousness:

WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

Excellent post Scotty!

As I have said in earlier threads regarding the status of our favorite band:

Despite what lack of good news of late, I have not increased OR decreased my listening of Van Halen. That figure will remain a constent.

I agree almost 100%. Still, it would be nice to have some kind of announcement either way. If Ed and the boys say that they are taking more time off (e.g., so that Ed can be with his family) than I, as a BIG fan, can accept and respect that. It is true that we have an incredible archive of great VH music to listen to. I just know, personally, that whenever I hear that VH is putting something new out, I get this little chill down my spine in anticipation of hearing some of the greatest musicians in the world (and I include Al and Mike in that category) playing new music. And, thats not "band worship", its merely respect for a very very good band that I want to hear more new stuff from.

I'm not bailing just yet, but I can't blame anyone who does. Consider the 3 developments of the last week, in order of appearance:

1) Van Halen has no record label.

2) Michael Anthony may or may not be recording with Sammy Hagar & Neil Schon (& Slash???)

3) Bart Walsh is out of the DLR Band, reportedly replaced by Japanese guitarist Toshi Hiketa, which would indicate Dave is returning to a solo career.

If all three of these stories turn out to be true, it can only add up to one conclusion:

Van Halen does not exist.

And that doesn't leave a lot to discuss on a discussion board, does it?

Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!

...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

I have to agree the whinning is too damn funny.

Ed has said nothing is going on, David has said that nothing is going on.

There is no announcments and updates because there is NOTHING to announce.

It seems if they made a statement anything short of a reunion, no one on here would believe them.

Myself and many others come here for much more than just todays rumors and news. There is a lot to be offered on vhlinks and forums for any VH fan.

It's not that he's decided to do this one way or the other, and that's the problem. Most of us on here who are complaining simply would like some concrete answers from the band. No secret knowledge of the reunion. No insider info on why it hasn't worked out with Roth. Simple stuff like, Why did Van Halen with Gary disband? The only band member to speak on that issue in the last two years was Gary himself. All most of us are asking is just tell us if the band is on hiatus or not. It's so obvious that they are but they don't say it. I can guarantee you if there was a message on van-halen.com from the band a year ago or so, in response to all the rumors that were flying back then, saying:

"We're aware of all the rumors and we'd like to set the record straight. Since we're between singers, we've decided to take a long hiatus from Van Halen to concentrate on family, health and other projects. When Van Halen is ready to return to the stage, we will let all of you fans know. Until then, we appreciate everything that you, the fans, have done for us."

But noooooooooooooooo... that'd be too easy. They had to go and just say, "We're aware of all the rumors and rumors are just that. Check back here for updates." What updates? Then we find out all of our info from golf magazines and Val on talk shows. Then they trickle out bullshit to the media with statements like "it's a name you will all know," "depends on what we do", "we're continually working on our next record", "I don't know other people's realities", "we're set to make some big announcements soon", etc. It's just plain dumb and irresponsible. Rumors and speculation always run rampant in the absense of real information. That's the rule.

This, in addition to having a complete imbecile running their Web site, whose main purpose is to get off on the fact that he is the one guy between the band and fans. All he does is hype guitars these guys are never going to play on stage anytime soon, all the while saying garbage like "you'll never know who just might stop by" and "before you know it, we'll all be rocking!". It just gets the fans goat. "12-12-12: 5-3=2 and counting" and "Old Glory steps is first to step up to the plate < 48" is the dumbest thing I've ever encountered in this climate of no news. Simply announcing that there was going to be a new contest on van-halen.com would have been sufficient. For Brad to grandstand saying, "I had no idea that my cryptic comments in an e-mail sig would get so bent out of shape" just proves how clueless this guy really is. And I don't think he's as clueless as he pretends to be: He knew that "old glory" would get people thinking about the reunion and he used it to his advantage to get visitors to the Web site. "Closed until further notice." Get out of here, you spudhead. I truly believe the band has no idea how this guy conducts himself in representing the band on the Internet.

So, in response to the original request of "Support our favorite band"? You fail to recognize that they do not support their favorite fans: Van Halen fans. They've been dicking around with us since November 2, 1999, and by not providing any information as to the demise of that incarnation of the group or to the future they've brought all of this on themselves. As much as it pains me to say it, I'm with Ford anymore: sheep are sheep.

People that are bailing out or bashing the band just seem like bandwagoners to me. It's like "Van Halen is cool as long as they're in talks to reunite with Roth, but under any other circumstances, they suck." This is certainly a dark time to be a VH fan, but does that mean we should give up hope? Take sports for example...true fans support their team through good years and bad years. Why should VH fans be any different? Have die-hard Chicago Bulls fans stopped coming to games because Jordan no longer suits up? No. Fans who support their team through multiple losing seasons are the kind of fans I want to exchange thoughts, ideas and opinions on this board with. Everyone else can piss off and migrate to some Spinal Tap board or something...

Your analogy to sports is a good one. However, if sports teams owners, coaches, players, etc., stopped talking to the media, didn't release any info to the media when they traded players, changed a starting line-up, or had a reaction to a loss you can bet your ass that seats would stop being filled and even die-hard fans would stop being interested.
