was on VH1 last night. Interesting. Saw it before but it was nice to see again. Drugs have taken a toll on Mr. Roth. And Samuel needs to grow up.

last night was my 1st viewing. some decent footage of days past of both eras. Interesting to see that Hagar can't stand Roth either after only 1 tour. Reinforces the band's decision to originally split from Roth after 1984. As far as their split from Hagar, I don't doubt that after 11 years Sammy was itchin' to see if he could march off on the solo trip again...he proved he could be successful but never as successful as he was with VH. It appears Sammy's tequila has been his most successful venture since parting with the boys.

IN my opinion Dave comes across as a delusional drug addict and Sammy comes across as a bitter jackass. Wonderful choices for a reunion, no wonder Eddie is drinking!

All the blame can't go on David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar. We've never gotten a straight answer about whats happened in that band, Everybody associated with that band knows, but nobody is gonna talk. Sammy and Dave are gonna say one thing, Eddie and Alex are gonna say another. Been like that for years. We are never gonna get a straight answer about the behind the scene happens of Van Halen until someone neutral in that band releases a book or something. Mikey is our guy but he's been friends with both Dave and Sammy AND The Brothers for so long, it really comes down to loyalty. You open your mouth and tell the truth your gonna lose your job and friends or you lose your friends. I really want to hear something about the exits of DLR and Hagar from someone other than Ed and Al or Sammy and Dave.

I noticed many of the dates the program listed were wrong.

They listed VH I as debuting 3/11/78. When in actuality it debuted 2/10/78.

Hmm now see I've seen it quite a bit. And in fact loved the car show on afterwards. Sammy still has the Ferrari he blew in the 55 video. Nothing beats Dave's 54 merc though. Now see here, Sammy was complaining that the tour wasnt fair because when he was the opening act, he got the small dressing room... Um hello. What do you think Dave gets the nights he opens. RETARD. I also thought some of it was quite funny. If you ask me, they didn't fight at all. In fact I bet they got along great but didn't wanna show the cameras that. Simply because if they keep the whole rival thing going, they get more people to come to the shows and it keeps things more exciting. So you guys are gonna tour again this summer right!? This time, invite Eddie to come up and play a few songs from both sets. He needs to get out the dumpster. He looks fucking HOMELESS.

Let's look at the track record on Dave and Sam.

Dave: Ego got toooo big, tested the solo waters and decided to split. I have a recording of DLR on Late Night w/ Letterman in 1985 and DLR said "I'll see if I'm gonna be a small weinie another year or a big dawg". DLR responding to Letterman's question if a VH break-up was in the works. Dave walks out of VH in 85.

Sam: 1991 F.U.C.K.-Sammy didn't want to sing for Andy Johns. Sammy would only sing for Ted Templeman. Why would VH need two big time producers to do the record? Check the credits on the CD and you'll see both Ted and Andy as producers. I side with Eddie on this one that Sammy was becoming more difficult to work with. 1993's Double Live CD-In 93 Sammy was always saying how great VH is as a live band and the live recordings were great to release to the fans. After Sam left VH, he stated the live album was a bad idea. Gee, Sammy always finds a way to contradict himself. 1995-Balance world wide premiere: Sammy was complaining that it is hard to "open up and sing for someone you don't know" referring to Balance producer Bruce Fairbourn. On that same night on the radio premiere Sammy said "if Eddie is having a bad day in the studio he can blame it on his amp, I can't do that as a singer". You can see Sammy is whining about working with other producers. "Human's Being"-Eddie had to finish the vocals because Sam was going back to his hard life in Hawaii.

I think the records speak for themselves, and yes I do agree with Ed "Sam and Dave both suffer from LSD-Lead Singer's Disease".

Alex VH interview in Huh magazine (96)-Big Al was quoted as saying to Sammy in the press "If you say one more thing about my family, I'll go to your house and kick you f#$*in ass"!! Sammy was even degrading enough to comment on how Eddie was slipping back to drinking on the Balance tour and having some "sloppy nights" Any true VH fan knows that Eddie has played drunk and under the influence for years and has kicked every other guitar players'ass on stage.

I'm tired of the Sammy and Dave clown show. Just shut up gentlemen and get on with your career/life. Dave you screwed up, you could of grown up and be in VH right now.

    HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT:
Is VH3 that bad of a record? I don't think so, OU812 isn't any better that VH3. Folks talk about how bad VH3 is but some people don't like change. VH is a musician's band. They are not going to put "Panama" on every album. At least Gary sang his ass off live on the DLR era and Sammy era without complaining. I've waited years to hear some old school VH before Gary joined, but we were lucky to get a few old gems with Sammy at the healm. It is possible if VH fans could of been 1 album patient, VH w/ Cherone would of released at least two more albums since VH3. Oh well, what's the big deal? It's only Rock n Roll??

I think that Sammy didn't expect touring with Dave to be as bad as was talked about during his VH days.
Both men looked silly taking jabs at each other. Dave sitting with his entourage in a backstage hallway cutting down Sam's tequila and Sammy complaining about how much of a "dick" Dave is.
And Dave's little "Eddie Van Heinekin" blurb won't do him any favors and was un-called for. But I think he knows a formal VH reunion with him won't ever happen.

It was billed as the "Heavyweight Champs of Rock & Roll" tour but was really just another tour of aging rock stars.
Dave played only VH songs (except for Yankee Rose), while Sam's set was more spontaneous at times and didn't seem over rehearsed to where the band was like a bunch of robots out there.
If you are a fan of one or the other you would have had a great time and probably came up with your own biased opinion of the show.
I personally am a fan of both eras of VH equally, but am more of a Hagar fan than Dave as solo artists. So Sammy gave me a better show than I thought of Dave's. Dave was good, but it was rock without the roll. Sammy gave me the best of both worlds. (sorry for the pun)
