I've seen all the tours from OU812 on down. I would say my favorite was the 'Live: Right Here, Right Now'.

Hard to be objective here...
I never saw a Dave-VH tour. I saw most of the Sam-VH tours and the Gary-VH tour. The band was always drunk as hell on the early tours, but they had that crazy-fun-jam energy that we hear on those early records; I'm sure it would've been awesome to see in person. And so--of the tours that I saw--I enjoyed OU812 (Monsters of Rock) because I was a crazy teenaged kid seeing my absolute favorite band for the first time (and doing that whole "I'm in the same building as Van Halen right now" thing), they sounded awesome on the Balance tour, and I had amazingly cool experiences on both of the III shows I saw (they played a bunch of old tunes--the stories are otherwise too long to tell now). Ed's 20-minute-plus solo at the Halloween '04 show in Fargo forever changed the way I think about the guitar and music. If I ever meet Ed, without being too dramatic I'm going to thank him for that experience.

When you hear DLR Band - you think of a band. Just like when you hear Eddie Van Halen you think of a person, and when you hear Van Halen - you think of David Lee Roth!"

RHRN gets the shaft for some reason, it was really the last great VH tour. Get a boot of it, everyone is having fun, kicking ass and they actually cut loose once in awhile on that tour with some covers and other tunes, everything was loose but everyone played great. Opening with Mine all Mine was great, the bass solo was awsome with Mike setting the bass on fire, Al's solo was cool as hell with the horns and keyboards, Ed's solo was different with the intro to big trouble, littel guitars and intro to pleasure dome...they played Eagles Fly-the whole band played the whole song. Get the "rockin my hometown" boot, it's from the last show of the tour and it's a great boot. I don't know for sure but they cut our Young Man Blues from Ed's solo on that boot but the MP3 that's been going around is from that show. It really was the best show I've ever seen-saw the opening night in Clarkston of the US tour-best show I've ever seen. Period.

IMO, the Fair Warning tour followed closely by the WACF 1980 tour are tops. Both Fair Warning shows I caught over a 4 day period were identical but simply outstanding.
I've been lucky enough to catch every Roth era tour including a pre-1st album club show in early '77 and the '80 and '81 tours were the band at their absolute peak. The 1980 show at the LA Sports Arena was almost a revelation because the band had become the *best* hard rock outfit on the planet by then and the show was such a leap over anything they'd done before.
I honestly don't remember much about the '78 Long Beach show I saw as I was pretty wasted at that one. The 2 '79 shows I saw were both kinda sloppy as were the Diver Down and US Fest shows. The one '84 show I saw was really tight, but too choreographed and a bit short compared to the really long sets in '82/'83 (plus the didn't play a lot of songs I wanted to hear which kinda bummed me out).
My favorite Hagar era tour was probably the 5150 tour I saw. I missed the Monsters of Rock tour and the '91 and '93 shows were pretty much the same to me. The two reunion shows in '04 were actually decent, but the 1st one was because I saw a nearly 45 minute 6 song soundcheck and the 2nd one because they broke out the 1st 3rd of "Hot For Teacher."
The Balance tour show I caught was only decent, Eddie seemed way off at times and probably ranks as my least favorite VH show. Same with the 1st 1998 show, not that good although the 2nd '98 show I caught at the Hard Rock in Vegas at the end of the tour was outstanding and probably my 2nd overall favorite VH show post 1985.

I am going to go with my first VH experience, 82 Largo. I was 11, almost 12 years old, went with my older brother and couldn't believe what I was experiencing. Nothing ever topped that.
I agree with the above poster about the 84 tour. Very tight, but less spontaneous and more choregraphed, to me it was a sign of where they were headed as a live band, with or without Dave.
5150 tour is one of my favorites, with the back and forth guitar solo with Sam and Ed as one of my favorite VH moments, "Ed, quit cheating, you are using two hands again!"
I saw the FUCK tour in Roanoke and it was about as boring a show as I have ever been to, they were just going through the motions that night.
Sam and Dave show was awesome, thought Sam was better that night (you know that has to hurt me to say!), but both were excellent.
Thought the 2004 show was abysmal. Boring with a capital B, setlist hadn't changed in ten years, couldn't tell what song they were playing until Sam started singing. Though Unchained was awesome, I thought the roof was going to cave in with 18,000 screaming every lyric to the entire song.If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.
Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"
David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!
