    Default Three E's for Edward

Paul Gilbert, guitar virtuoso, was heavily influenced by Eddie in his early years and has released a tribute to Eddie in his latest album. Here are the liner notes about this song on the CD:

"My biggest guitar hero is named Edward. I have seen visions of freedom, virtuosity, and unspeakable joy that remain unmatched. I hope he can find his way to a place free of all pollution and once again show us the beauty of his music and soul. With this hope in mind, I put three strings on my acoustic guitar, tuned them all to E (in octaves), and play these notes for him."

I think that pretty much speaks for itself. The song is remarkable and is a great tribute to Eddie, especially now.

Paul has given me permission to post this song in its entirety on my website so that other Eddie fans could hear it - so I wanted to let you guys know. Enjoy!

Paul is a great guitarist with a pretty good sense of humor. It's a nice gesture on his part and hopefully Eddie is aware of it.

I saw Paul Gilbert jump onstage with The Atomic Punks and play "Hot For Teacher" about 5 years ago at the Anaheim House of Blues. Pretty damn cool!

Paul Gilbert is technically the best gutarist on earth. He is a perfectionist. He ain't Edward, and doesn't have the song writing skills of our man, but his technique kills Steve Vai (and the like).

Paul's w/out a doubt one of the most technically proficient gunslingers around. But not THE most IMO. Rusty Cooley and the late great Shawn Lane are/were on a level that is simply not of this earth.

But it's kind of like arguing the difference between a 9.8 and a 10.0. They're all unbelievable.

I would've agreed PG was technically better than Vai in the 80s, but these
days I'm not so sure. Vai is always improving and watching the G3 stuff, the
sheer breadth of his technique is fucking amazing. Like Gilbert, he can play
anything. And everything. For whatever it's worth.

Very cool tune.... Gilbert is one of my favorite guitar players.

A brief comment about the Vai/Gilbert thing, both are great players. I have to agree that technically Gilbert has the upper hand, especially his picking chops. But technique isn't everything, Vai is very diverse.
