Default List some GREAT DLR solo songs!!!

alright, list em, what are some great Dave solo songs? I've got most of Dave's solo stuff and I know what I consider good but I'm wondering what the DLR community in general thinks are some standouts from his solo career.

    I'm a real good loser
Cause I get a lot of practice
    With the breaks
    When they're beatin' my boys
    So I asked her,
"What's the only thing to do in this town?"
An' she gives me a multiple choice!
It's like Peter Pan an' Tinkerbell
    Poised on the perverbial brink
    I asked her,
"How the hell you get in those tight blue jeans?"
    She said,
"For starters you could buy me a drink..."

Dave's solo career has always intrigued me alot, seems like he had the world by the balls and it just kinda slipped away. I was wondering if it was a matter of his song "dropping off' in terms of quality or if it was an ever changing musical taste that the general public has. I always thought EEAS was a really good album, probably one of the best that was released in 1986, the band dave assembled was just great. I'm not gonna compare EEAS to 5150 cause that's a different thread alltogether but I think Dave really did what he thought Van Halen should have been doing had he stayed in the band. I found Dave's progression on skyscraper "odd", I don't know if he was reacting to the success of VH or if he was just evolving as an artist. I did think skyscraper was excellent when it was first released. I don't think some of the material has aged well but I still think it was a very cool album. ALAE is odd to me also cause it kinda seems like Dave has lost his way...that's kinda hard to describe but it seems like it's all over the place....anyway that's probably better for another thread ass well. Here's the ones I'd pick as "great" dave solo songs:

    Yankee Rose
    shyboy
    Tobacco Road'
    Goin Crazy
Bump N Grind-thought this should have been the 3rd single, very undrratted
    Knucklebones
    Damn Good
Hot Dog and a Shake-don't care if they're stupid lyrics I like it
Hina-Dave's best ever solo song IMO
    Baby's on Fire
    Last Call
    Drop in the Bucket

I kinda loose track of him at this point, I have YFLM but never really listen to it.

Always wondered why "She's My Machine" always seems to get the shaft. I personally think it's the most Halen-like of his solo tunes (as well as my personal fave). Awesome guitar intro and the drums venture into Big Al territory.

I like the synth backing of Drop in The Bucket as well.

Whenever I hear "Just Like Paradise", it's stuck in my head for the whole day!

Not my favorite, but damn catchy.

I'm with you. She's My Machine is one of my DLR faves, and indeed it sounds like a VH tune. Other faves: Damn Good, Shyboy, Ladies Night In Buffalo & Yankee Rose.
"With me in the band, it's one of those miraculous 97-97 deals. It's 97 percent you and 97 percent moi. Is it Mick or Keith? I don't know" -DLR

"We eventually started playing clubs, and we also did weddings. We played everything from the Ohio Players to K.C. & the Sunshine Band. You would love the sight of Van Halen doing 'Get Down Tonight'! But by the third set when everybody was good and tanked up--boy, we'd be blazin'!" -Michael Anthony

Dude, I couldn't agree with you more....every word of it. I feel EXACTLY the same way you do. IMO your assessment is dead-on.

It has always been my opinion that Dave's solo stuff was very good at it's time but has not aged well at all. Eat 'Em still sounds good to me but Skyscraper I absolutely feel hasn't aged well at all.

    .
VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

Everything listed so far makes my list - Damn Good is probably at the top; maybe Yankee Rose.
