Edward's personal life

Ed quit drinking in October of 94. This is where it seems all the problems in the band started. I am not suggesting that he go back to drinking, even though it has been alleged that he jumped off the wagon.

But, consider this, the Balance sessions were wrapped in turmoil. As well as the tour. Then the bring back Dave, BOV1, and Sammy stuff. Then the failure of VH III. And it's been downhill since.

I am sure his cancer is a big holdup now, but it is not 100% of the problem. I wish him the best!

Ed has had a rough 6 years to say the least.

Dont forget the hip replacement surgery.

I think the drinking/not drinking gets overplayed a bit. I think the real problems started with the death of Ed Lefler. Everything can be more closely connected to Ray Danniels than the lack of booze, at least up until the end of the 3 sessions. Beyond that, we simply don't have much reliable information.

I would have to agree with Mike L on this one. Ed Leffler played a huge part in the change of events. Although somewhere between 0U812 and F.U.C.K. I think Eddie and Sammy weren't so chummy anymore. I think Eddie felt he was getting in the same scenario where he used to be with Dave. Notice how Eddie worked on a new guitar, amp, and studio in this time period.

most of it was ED's own doing. smoking and drinking led to the problem with his hip and the cancerous thing with his tongue.

Alcoholism is a disease...drinking is just a symptom. He has other personal issues that he is dealing with on an ongoing basis.

Ed has quit drinking about a million times.

I don't know how many interviews through the years where he has stated he is clean and sober and then three months later......whoops.

True alcoholic. Hopefully someday, he will get it under control. To this day, I still don't believe he has.

Alcoholism is most CERTAINLY a disease, and a genetically inherited one too. I have done a lot of research on the subject, believe me, it is.

If we are going to talk about Ed's past and such, how many times has Valerie left him over his "ways" ?

I am sure some of this was due to his addiction to "drugs" etc.

I really hope he finds his way to happiness in life. He may be doing that right now.

Drinking in excess may be a vice. Not being able to stop may be a weakness. Alcoholism is a disease. An alcoholic is still an alcoholic even when he/she has stopped drinking.

No alcoholic I know ever said when they grew up they wanted to be an alcoholic. Most wanted to be happy!
It is hard for a non alcoholic to see it as a disease, at one time, I never understood this, now I do [img]smilies/wink.gif[/img]
