dave's had this posted on his site for a while, along with california girls:

    http://www.davidleeroth.com/galleries/videos.php

this definitely has a suburban cheese factor to it... dave's in a lot better shape since that performance...

I remember watching this live in 2004.

My grandmother was in the room, and she goes, "Time to hang it up, Dave."
If it's BROWN, flush it DOWN.

I'll give you a free pass on that because of your age. And I don't mean that as a slam in any way, but the fact is you can't appreciate the lame-ness of that disgrace.

Even STYX thinks the opening keyboards sound cheesy.

I take offense to that DD....so because the guy is young he can't distinguish a GOOD version of Jump from a BAD one....I know it was a joke but....that's fucking stupid...just because you old-timers were alive while it was recorded and released doesn't mean that we can't appreciate a good version or have an opinion on a certain version.....by the way....WE HAVE HEARD THE SONG JUMP BEFORE....

Yeah, I don't know what happenned there.... The video I uploaded looked right. Something in YouTube's conversion made it go "wide"

As for the performance..... I can do without the orchestra, but Dave's ON, he looks happy, and the crowd loves him. What's the problem?

    Exactly.....

Metallica.... Scorpions.....Aeroshit..... a few other bands I can't remember at the moment. Some have done entire concerts and/or albums with orchestras. Dave does two songs, neither of which were really rock songs to begin with.

As far as I'm concerned, orchestra in place of synthesizers is a fair trade. Neither one's really rock n roll.

I'm a little torn between two opinions here.

The Good: I like when Dave explores (sometimes), and it seemed as if he had fun that evening. The band was good at making their own rendition of the song, but Brian Young's smokin' solo is what truly makes it somewhat good. If I closed my eyes I could SWEAR it was EVH.

The Bad: The cheese factor. I don't like his voice at all on this performance and think it's a little much. Not only that, but how many more versions of Jump do we really need? I don't like the song as it is...

That version of California Girls was better.

If you're comparing this version of Jump with Metallica and the San Fran Orchestra......you need to get your head checked....big time......

I can't even think of something to say......

i think his point is that you or the other guy didn't live with the original song when it was actually out as a single... it's one thing to hear a song on classic rock radio that is 20 years old and try to appreciate it for how good it is/was, but it's another thing entirely to be hearing a brand new hot song on the radio now, getting excited about it, and having it define a time in your life (e.g., "oh yeah, remember back in high school when... i remember playing jump on the radio and..." etc.)... it's not to say that you can't appreciate a song like 'jump' many years later, but to people who grew up with the song in their youth, seeing/hearing a bastardized version of it 20 years later makes you cringe... and from your perspective, there's no way that you can have as much emotional investment in the song than somebody's who's lived with it longer than you've been alive...

this performance specifically has cheese written all over it... it makes me feel like dave is going on a retirement home tour and doing soft, emaciated versions of songs that rocked... granted, this was a one-time thing... but if you've seen/heard the orchestra pairings with metallica and scorpions, at least the songs sounded like they had POWER to them (some may disagree)...
