    There's about a 15-second intro.

Actually it is about 18 seconds longer in the intro than what MTV used to show. But considering those 18 seconds are nothing more than darkness I'd say this isn't anything you'd run to the bathroom and jerk off to.

If anyone who has been living in a cave for the last 30 years asked me what Van HALEN was all about, I would direct them to this video.

I never noticed this before... Ed doesn't step on his flanger for the low C# in the intro like on the album. (He did so in more recent tours.)

Yeah, I noticed that before. I absolutely love the ole flanger so it's missed for sure.

After watching the Oakland "Unchained" originally posted, I started going through some of the other ones on YouTube. Ed's tone on the Oakland show was still very much of the FW era, whereas later versions were not. But interestingly enough he was closer to the album version on the III and '04 tours--the flanger, solo, outro riffs, etc. He must really mean it when he says he has to go back and re-learn stuff for tours.

Yeah, that always cracked me up when I read that. I guess when you write as many riffs as he has (consider the plethora that haven't even seen the light of day) some of them could run together. I bet he just has to listen to a song once and go "oh yeah, I remember". At least the ones he never hardly plays.
