It's getting pretty fucking pathetic when there's a Waltons rerun on TV or Little House on the Prairie, two of the most sickeningly NON-offensive shows in history, and they have it bleeped out because someone said "god damn" or "hell" in 1975 and 30 years later the fucking censorship is actually WORSE.

I've got to now support the American Civil Liberties Union, this is like only the third time in 43 years that's happened. For the FCC to petition Congress to give it more power over CABLE? Why are we fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq so those idiots can be free and then have our own government go out of it's way to impose the will of a minority of stupid people? I mean OUT OF THEIR WAY. I resent it when a small group of assholes use the government to change the laws to suit their own selfish needs. It's cowardly. Instead of turning off their TVs or actually being an active parent they hide behind the government. I don't like it when my first ammendment right is violated by the very government that is supposed to protect it.
Set aside that arguement for a second and just look at the technical aspects. First off, the FCC has no say on DVD sales or rentals, a nine year old can watch Scarface instead of cartoons in the morning if he wants to. Then you have satellite TV where some channels are on an East Coast feed, that means that a show that's on at 10:00pm in New York is on at 7:00pm in LA. Does the FCC sue the satellite company? Then, in the long run this will be thrown out by the Supreme Court (like they did before) because violence is subjective, if you can show violence on the news at 6:00pm then why not at 8:00pm? It's frustrating and embarassing that my government is run at almost every level by self-serving dipshits, this will end up in court and cost thousands of tax dollars and eventually be tossed out.

So yes, for a couple of seconds I root for Al Qaeda, unlike the FCC they're honest about their intentions to destroy the American way of life.

A couple of years back I was watching a 3 Stooges episode on TV, pretty sure it was on Ted Turner's channel. Moe gets hit in the head with a jar of ink which runs all over his face. He bumps into Larry who turns around and says, "what's the idea, Porter"? (as in most porters are black) Thought it was funny, anyway since I know all the lines to the Stooges, I knew it was there. On this episode they had bleeped out the "Porter" reference. I thought it was pretty sad that there are people around whose job it is to censor the Stooges.

I agree that this is bullshit and it shouldn't happen. It further pushes the envelope for more censorship.

However, I can't say that it would affect anyone in my household very much, if at all. With TIVO, I rarely watch anything when it's actually broadcasted, anyway (example, I'm two weeks behind on the Sopranos and will catch up this weekend, prior to 10pm most likely). The programming on the kids TV is locked up as tight as can be, both for channels, content, and time of day.

Nah guys, I don't know. Im a brand new dad but I can see that years down the road it's going to be to difficult for me to program our stuff to block out potentially offensive material.

I get tired real easy and I like to bullshit whenever possible, kinda like this post.

Anyway, it's hard these days, with so much out there we need people like the FCC to help us decide what is bad and what is good. I know I need help.

I mean look at the computer, I could just have the thing in the living room so that I can see the kid use it. But he gets on my nerves now, imagine how I will resent him when he's 10. I need him and that computer as far away as possible. Because of that it's vitally important that somebody like the FCC dictates what we all can watch, it's for the kids (and that's what I care about, just as long as I can do what I want).

If anything I feel the FCC needs to be more restrictive. I watched a re-run of the Dukes Of Hazzard yesterday, AT 7:00 pm!!! I almost hopped in my car and attempted to jump the nearest pond, and im in my 30's! If I was a ten year old im sure I would have done it.
