Kramer "1984" Reissue
The Kramer "1984" Reissue.
Very little fanfare about this guitar. It is supposed to be a better guitar than the Charvel Art Series and only costs $699. Is the Art Series really worth the paintjob?
This is the guitar Eddie played on the 1984 tour and on the 5150 tour. Why aren't people fighting over these? Sounds like a killer deal to me. Is it because it doesn't have the "official" Eddie endorsement??Lets just throw a pound of weed in the fire place, f@#% it!

http://www.kramerguitars.com/
I have old kramers, wolfs, les pauls, and fenders! Always stayed it tune, pickup sounded great, looked great fit, and finish! Go for it it wont take long to get, maybe 3 days if it's in stock!

Nine hundy at Music123.com....where did you see it for seven at??
Regardless, interesting thought though..... maybe people are buying them a lot, they are sold out at above mentioned site.
I've never played one, maybe people just prefer the Wolf's, or the EBMM's now, compared the '84, the necks on these two are to die for, they just beg to be played and maybe not so much on the Kramer.

i thought those were the ones made in japan was'nt they?
I used to wonder why he was grinning all the time(Michael Ian Black talkin about EVH on VH1 I love the 80's) but then i realized the reason he's grinning is because he's Eddie F*#king Van Halen

I don't know if I'm going to spend that much, I'll just go and get a real 1984 Baretta.

Was Eddie's original 1984 guitar made of Alder?

Not sure, most early Baretta's were maple, and they were heavy as hell. I have a maple Pacer, thing is a so fucking heavy.

Just looking at the specs I was surprised to see it was made of alder. I don't recall any of Ed's preferred guitars being made of alder. The original Frankie was ash, the EBMMs and Wolfgangs were basswood (with maple tops), and the Charvel Art Series are also basswood. I don't know what the Kramers were.
A customer had an original hand-painted (and signed) George Lynch guitar in for a setup last week. Those things were all maple, and it was definitely heavy as hell.

my old 84 barretta is maple (exept the finger board) and yes the damn thing weighs a ton....killer tone though and despite its age its still showing no signs of fretwear....now i bet you cant say that about the new(gibson owned) ones now can you.

I have the 1984 and its a good guitar, but I dont think its worth the price. the neck is great, but I stripped the body to bare wood to paint it and its multiple piece alder sandwiched between 2 1/8" thick alder laminates on the front and back.
If I was to do it over, I would buy a kit from some of the well known builders in either 1pc or 2pc poplar.
This was in early 2004, I dont know if they still build them this way. I think the guitar would definitely sound better if it was 1pc or 2pc body in my opinion.

no one knows for sure that the frankie was ash, *no one* like has been posted here years ago when it was trying to be determined if you look at the worn spots down to the wood on the Frankie I would say it's not at all Ash.
Ash has very very deep grain, matter of fact they are more like ruts than grain and Ash is a pain in the ass to seal and I have real doubts that Ed was gonna take the time to seal that body well enough to hide the grain (meaning no wood grain showing under the paint) .
But as I said no one knows for sure and you can't believe what Ed said or says and as always I could be wrong but knowing woods since I have been woodworking since my teens my opinion is that it is not Ash.

According to this the $699 Kramer plays and sounds better than the $3499 Charvel Art Series.Lets just throw a pound of weed in the fire place, f@#% it!

Exactly. Anyone ever play an ash bodied Strat with a humbucker? There is a snappy/pop tone quality like a telecaster. It's not a smooth, rounded sound like alder or other woods. I would have to bet that there is NO WAY IN HELL the Frankie is ash. It's got to be alder.
I chuckle when I see luthiers selling ash Strat/5150 bodies and people buying them. To each their own if you like the tone; mine's not like Ed's either but it's what I like. But Ed is laughing his ass off as he threw everyone the ultimate curve ball on the body wood a long time ago and everyone bought it. Either that or he thought it was ash and he is unknowingly wrong.
