Default Anyone have a GPS fo a car??

I really need to get a GPS. I am at so many different addresses each day I cant keep them all straight. When I am doing bank inspections I may be at 5 to 6 places a day, after awhile all of the addresses sound a like. For home inspections I have no idea where I am going have the time. I print maps at the office but that is not always possible, I frequently get called while in the feild to do a bank inspection and dont have the time OR desire to go back to the office.

I have read a fair amount about the portable GPS systems, most of the reviews are good with a few bad ones. I do not want to spend a shit load of money on this. I was thinking $250 to $350.

Anyone have one or have any experiences with one.

I would recommend one. I used mine today to get to two different destinations. They are definitely worth the money. The best type is Garvin, and your price range is about right. For someone who does as much traveling as you, it is a great help. You will be amazed at everything else it offers. For example, if I am in a certain part of a state and want to get something to eat, I can look up different restaraunts that are in that area and the GPS will lead me right to the spot. Go get one.

I bought the Mrs. a Garmin nuvi 350 for X-mas. She's a realtor so she's always in the car. She absolutely loves it. I got it for about $400 on Amazon around Christmas time. I'm sure it's the same price if not even cheaper now.

My fiance and I use a Magellan for geocaching and we love it. It is a pretty basic model that cost us about $150.

My car came with a navi system factory-installed. We love it. For after-market GPS systems, I've heard good things about the Garmin models. They're pretty reasonably priced too.

As a side question, has anyone ever bought a handheld GPS? If so, can you recommend a reasonably priced one?

My business partner just got a Garmin and he's pleased with it so far.

I got a PDA/mobile phone recently that has built-in GPS and Co-Pilot software. It's useful in that it works as in-car satnav, but I can take it with me if I'm trying to find somewhere on foot as well. And send/receive email, write word docs, call my mother, browse the web - you know, it's actually possible for one device to do too much...

Do the in-car GPS systems update their maps automatically? I've used the one built in to my PDA phone before with the TeleNav software. It's nice because it connects to the Internet and gets real-time information. You can even search for the cheapest gas prices in your area. Like Charvel2 said, you can take it on foot with you.

I purchased a Garmin yesterday at Best Buy, so far so good. It worked right out of the box. I have been to three homes today and it took my right to all of them. Easy to use, large screen, I like it a lot. I cant believe I waited this long.

    Update.

The Garmin I purchased started to act up. When it is plugged into the lighter it would switch between battery power and electric power every 30 seconds. It became very annoying. I took it back to Best Buy, thank goodness I purchased the extra warrenty. They switched it out for a new one. Other than that little problem I do like the Garmin and use it daily.

Anybody have or have any thoughts on the TomTom One 125 GPS? mrs007 has mentioned she'd like a GPS as she travels exclusively for her job, and so I'd like to get her one that she can carry with her in her luggage and then use in the rental cars she gets sometimes. I don't know enough about them (and lord knows, I'd refuse to use one myself!), but obviously I'd want her to have something that she could probably put in her purse, stays up to date and can get her from point a to point b all at a reasonable price (do GPS lose their signal like cellphones do?). And Best Buy and Circuit City both have the 125 on sale right now. Any reviews?

I had the Tom Tom One XL GPS but after using it a few days I returned it for the much more expensive GO 920 with the voice activation (since I'm usually driving alone)

in hindsight I could have easily stuck with the more basic model. but no matter, even the simple version worked within moments of getting it out of the box

gave another one to my brother in San Diego and he seems to like it just fine and uses it alot to around SD and to LA...

they are great to have at night when you are driving in a unfamiliar area, that for sure...and nice to be able to use it to find the closest gas station etc.

I have a TOM TOM One. It's freaking awesome. Two of my buddies have borrowed it from me. They were so impressed they bought one of their own.

Best Buy currently has one on sale.

Billy, I have a garmin and like it a lot. I have never heard a negative thing about a Tom Tom either. One suggestion I would like to make to you is to buy a extended warranty. When I purchased mine the guy at Best Buy offered me a 3 yr extended warranty for $50, I normally do not go for these type things. He said if you are going to use the device every day he highly recommended it. I use mine all day 5 days a week. It appears that they break after so many uses. My warranty allows me to bring it back to best buy when it breaks and exchange it for another one.

After about a year it went haywire, I took it in to Best buy they gave me another one, it took about 5 minutes.
