I've always thought it would be cool to say you were there at the taping of a live album or video, or even a bootleg. But so far, it hasn't happened.

Well, the CD was made over a few different shows, wasn't it?

I know someone who says you can see him for a second in the L:RHRN video!

The RHRN video was discussed on the VHML a few years ago. The general consensus was that Man On A Mission and In 'N Out were recorded at soundcheck. If you watch closely you'll see there are no shots of Sammy or the band singing the right parts where you can see a crowd.

The only shots including the crowd are from a distance where it's impossible to see what the band are singing (ie splices from other songs). Thanks for confirming the theory, Sherman!

If you look real hard, you can see me in the VH3 Sydney video that was shown on MuchMusic in Canada. You can see me in the front row during "Fire In The Hole" wearing my Van Halen I album cover T-shirt and 5150 cap, on Mike's side.

peavey5150: were you at the Canberra show? I was front row at that one too, directly in front of Ed's mike stand!

I was at the ou812 show in St Louis, November 1988, and they were recording for the live album. I don't know if any of those songs made it to the record, but I was going friggin' bonkers.(like any VH show)

I was at the first of the two Fresno, CA shows where the video for RHRN was filmed. There was so much excitement in the air, the band was working hard and having fun because they knew they were being filmed, and the place was just vibrating!! I'll never forget it!

its not RHRN, however, i was there for the taping of the 1998 VH3 concert in Sydney and we were sitting to the side of the stage (ed's side). all of a sudden this crane video was on its way and was going to pass us right directly in front of us. i said to the lads with me that this was our only chance ever to get on a van halen concert video. when the camera came pass....we went 100% f**cking crazy and you could see the camera keep on going but remained aimed at us. i have never seen the video as i don't have cable tv, but it would be madness if we ended up on it.

    sherman,

i'm sorry but i'm 99% sure that none of this songs you listed were recorded at the ou812 tour... i'm saying that because i have a boot called usa 1992 and is from one of the Fresno gigs... and they do play most of these songs... the version from the DVD/Video of when it's love it's taken from this show... you can tell that by Sammy intro.

    maybe i'm crazy,
    or just too high...

When It's Love couldn't have been recorded on the OU812 tour because Ed wasn't using pre-recorded keyboards until the F.U.C.K. tour.

I wasn't at RHRN, but I was at Alice Cooper's last live album's recording, and Marilyn Manson's too.

VHND, yes i was at the Canberra show.... it was my first experience with a van halen concert, and it was amazing. i have been a huge vh fan since 81 (i am 30) and to hear some of the songs they played for the first time in a long time was truely..and i am not getting carried away here..but.............words fail me, truely breath taking. as any one in the links from australia can tell you, prior to the internet, there was not a lot of obtainable van halen gear floating around...which adds the fact that at that canberra show, i was one of the first in the world to hear some of the music that was play that night...a true honour (i think they only had played one show in new zealand and one in tasmania so the canberra show was their third). for the americans here..it would be like vh playing at a club hall down the road to where you live that fits about 5000 or so people and no matter where you stand, you are in a prime position. VHND, i also went to the newcastle show were there were about 3000-4000 people there and they were f**king loud...stood about 2 metres from the front of the stage directly in front of ed!!!!!!! they weren't playing to a big crowd, but the boys looked like they really enjoyed themselves..remembering that this also was one of the first times that they had played as a unit in front of a crowd. and then off to brisbane where i live, to watch them play to about 10000. all in all, over a seven day period, i saw and travelled to four vh concerts located in canberra, sydney, newcastle and finally brisbane. my four brothers and i had been waiting a LONG time for van halen to reach the shores of australia and we weren't going to let it pass by....and we didn't. it was probably the finest seven days of van halen, drinking and women anyone could ever have. thank you van halen.
