Is it a bad idea for a Sober Ed to tour with Sammy or Dave?
Just an idea, as I look at how happy and healthy Ed now looks. Obviously both Dave and Sammy like to have an occassional beverage. But would it make more sense to wait on Wolfy to turn 18 and find a new singer? For his own health? I know Ed was sober during the Balance tour (or most of it), but would touring with either Diamond Dave or the Red Rocker send him back into the abyss? I guess what I am asking is, would you rather Ed stay healthy with a new lineup (Wolfy, Alex, new singer) or take the chance on him drinking again with one of the others.

If he's planning on playing arena music in the future, it really doesn't matter who's singing. It's not Dave with his whiskey or Sam with his tequila that makes Ed drink. A new singer will not change the fact that Ed will be around a variety of drugs and spirits at concert venues on tour, whether it be the concessionaire stands, the fans, the roadies, or backstage riders or guests.
I don't believe personnel changes will have significant effects on his sobriety maintenance. That said, if Ed wants to tour with either former singer, if he feels it would help, it wouldn't hurt for him to ask Dave or Sam or Mike to sideline the booze schtick during the shows. I have no doubt each of them would accommodate him.

Actually, I don't care anymore who he's touring with or if he'll ever tour again at all, as long as he stays sober!
I think it would be best for him to stay away from the life on the road for some time and come up with some new music in his studio. Then he could make an occasional live appearance here and there with whoever he wants to. Man, he should just enjoy life right now!

I tend to agree. I think if Ed is going to drink, he is going to drink. It doesn't matter if its Sam, Dave, Gary, Sass Jordan, Patty Smyth, or Tiny Tim. But it wouldn't hurt everybody to put the Cabo Wabo advertisments to rest or Dave still attempting to show he is the same whiskey swilling, Diamond Dave of old.

im willing to bet that if Eddie stays sober and for whoever is singing for the band not to drink on stage this will be the best tour ever, god willing there is a tour

I think the first thing Eddie needs to focus on is staying sober and happy. After that, it wouldn't hurt to befriend Sammy and Mike again as well as solidify his friendship with Dave. Then he can think about the band (if he wants to). I'm of the belief that if these guys don't get along, it isn't worth seeing. Alright...they don't need to be best friends, but they should be good with each other first. No more forced smiles and bitching after it's over. Either do it right or don't do it. Also, it wouldn't help a recovering Eddie to tour with guys he isn't getting along with. Let's focus on the important things first, guys.

Remember last time Ed got sober, we got "Balance," the best Van Hagar album ever made, and the best supporting tour since "Fair Warning."
Now, if anything will happen with any singer, we all know it WILL be Dave. There's no way at this point, after '04 tanked, it will be with Sam. Now, if Ed can get Dave, Mike, and his bro back to record new music and do a tour, it will maybe be the finest VH Tour since "Fair Warning," without a doubt.
But, let's leave that to EdIn and out. I didn't even make that pun on purpose.

If Eddie tours with Sammy or Dave anytime in the near future after only one month in rehab we are talking almost certain disaster. Eddie should record a solo with people who support him, even Dave and Sammy could check in for this but a tour? You must be joking.

I never said that it would have to be NOW. 2008 or even 2009 is fine, let him get back into shape. Or like I said in another thread, I don't give a shit if he doesn't do anything musically ever again, as long as he stays healthy.
Just stating the massive possibilities a PROPER reunion with Dave would have, now that Ed's sober. Never said it would happen. In and out. I didn't even make that pun on purpose.

Ed should stay the hell away from Sammy and Dave. In a very general sense the King needs to turn the page. It's that simple.
If eddie were down and out on a sidewalk playing guitar I'd be next to him with a bottle and a blanky braving the cold. I would be sucking my thumb happily making chupa chupa noises in sync with the petroglyphic sounds that came from the mighty finger tips of Edward Van Halen.
