    Fuck John McCain!

I voted for him in the 2000 primary, because I knew Gore had the nomination, and wanted to do all I could to ensure that Chimpy didn't have one. I also genuinely believed - at the time - that McCain was a reasonable man who wasn't afraid to stand up to his own party, and would be a President I could live with, if not actually support.

I no longer feel that way. He's now a corporatist fascist ass kisser like the rest of the neocons. Barry Goldwater's gotta be turning cartwheels in his grave.

Sometimes, FORD, I think we can go out, have a beer, and agree on things.

Outside of "standing up to his own party," which I think he did to as much of an extent as any Democrat has to their own, I have to agree with you. And I think that was careless, pandering (to neocons) speech from him, and I heard it was actually Rush who did that first.

If I can drink beer with three Pasture Dump mods only weeks after $tarks knifed me in the back, I can drink with just about anyone.

    Except maybe Chimpy or McCain.

During the lastest Iran War Scare, a number of bloggers have indirectly alluded to the 1979 "novelty" song, "Bomb Iran," by Vince Vance and the Valiants. For those of you too young to remember this jingo-pop classic (much beloved of "wacky" drive-time disc jockeys during the Iranian Hostage Crisis), here are the full lyrics.

Bomb Iran (to the tune of "Barbara Ann" by the Beach Boys)

Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran.
Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, BOMB IRAN!
Let's take a stand, bomb Iran.
    Our country's got a feelin'
Really hit the ceilin', bomb Iran.
    Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.
Went to a mosque, gonna throw some rocks.
Tell the Ayatollah..."Gonna put you in a box!"
Bomb Iran. Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.
    Our country's got a feelin'
Really hit the ceilin', bomb Iran.
    Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.

Ol' Uncle Sam's gettin' pretty hot.
Time to turn Iran into a parking lot. Bomb Iran.
    Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.

    Call the volunteers; call the bombadiers;
Call the financiers, better get their ass in gear.
Bomb Iran. Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.
    Our country's got a feelin'
Really hit the ceilin', bomb Iran.
    Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.

Call on our allies to cut off their supplies,
Get our hands untied, and bring em' back alive. Bomb Iran.
    Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.
    Our country's got a feelin'
Really hit the ceilin', bomb Iran.
    Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.

Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.
Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, BOMB IRAN!
Let's take a stand, bomb Iran.
    Our people you been stealin'
Now it's time for keelin', bomb Iran.
    Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.

In terms of compelling political lyrics, it sure ain't Dylan, eh? Predictably, ol' Vince and the boys did a 2002 retake of this song, redubbed "Bomb Iraq," which I never heard but that probably made a few Clear Channel playlists. And to show that this band's strange connection to the right-wing zeitgeist wasn't limited to foreign affairs, Vince Vance and the Valiants penned a song in the 90s entitled "I Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans." Well, no, you didn't really know what that means, did you, Vince?

The official Van Halen site used to have a message board which they named "The Pleasure Dome" after the Van Hagar song, but was quickly re-christened "The Pasture Dump" due to the heavy sheep infestation on the premises.

I was banned from the place several times, never for any valid reason. After what turned out to be the "final" ban before the board's ultimate collapse, I met up with a bunch of people at an Irish pub before the DLR show in 2001. Three of those in attendance were Pasture Dump mods. Nobody died, nobody got banned, not even a negative karma point (a stupid "demerit" system they used over there).

Brad $tarks is the webmaster of the official site. There are other stories about him I could tell, but I don't want to take this thread too far off topic....

I have no use for McCain politically. He's anti-2nd amendment and he's been asleep at the wheel regarding illegal immigration. That said, there's really no story here. He was simply responding to a veteran who asked something along the lines of when we were going to start sending Iran air mail messages. He was talking to a group of veterans.

Vince Vance was/is based in Dallas. During and after College, I must have seen them 15-20 times. They were a great bar/club band. They would do that song and then announce that it was #1 in Iraq that week. This was during the Iraq/Iran war.
