04 tour Question
I was thinking the other day, soundboard-or a really high quality boot from 04 has recently surfaced and it's obvious Ed is trashed on it. Sammy said working with Ed was very rough which contributed to his "so-so" lyrics and overall song quality from BOBW so the question is:
Do you feel let down by what we got in 04 or was it good enough to bookend the hagar era?

Yes and No.

I got lucky and caught them on a great night (San Diego) but I feel for the people that got the shitty Eddy nights, that's bullshit. Especially considering how much people spent to see him play, spending a larger percentage of your monthly income to see somebody as great as Edward and then to have him show up completely drunk is a crock of shit. It's rock and roll and stuff like this happens but Ed always seemed to bring the goods in the past, if he wants to drink like he's 23 then maybe he should think about hanging it up, his brain can't do it anymore.

I'm glad I got to see them live, but it was a dreadful way to bookend the Hagar era, as you put it. I sincerely hope they get the chance to tour again, and do it right.
Eddie is someone I admire tremendously, because of the pleasure that all of those great songs has given. But, as someone else alluded to, I'd prefer it if he stayed at home and just added to his "ten hours of music" locked up in 5150, rather than stinking up arenas like he did in 2004.
EDIT: I'm going to post-script this by wishing Eddie all the best in his current treatment. Eddie - thank you for getting healthy again!Last edited by Brian Elliott; 04.18.07 at 02:48 PM. Reason: Postscript added

I think the '04 tour woes have been amplified on this, the biggest VH fan site. In some respects Ed let his fans down, but the shows were not as bad as some folks have suggested, and the other three guys delivered on every gig.
Regarding the other question, I don't think the '04 tour--or any VH activity from the past eight years--is a good way to bookend anything. I agree with Sammy's RRHoF comments; VH should do a proper tour with Dave and/or they should do a tour with both singers. One or both would be good resolution for VH fans and perhaps the guys of VH themselves.
I maintain my status quo VH sentiment, though: Expect nothing, and you can be surprised if something actually does happen.

I saw VH twice in the first leg of the tour and Ed's playing was good for the most part. It wasn't close to flawless but it wasn't terrible either. Hearing those songs again along with the setlist made the shows enjoyable for me. Although, Ed's playing was better on the Balance and VHIII tours.

I thought it was great to see them again. Let's face it we all thought it would be the last time we got to see VAN HALEN live again. For me being a long time fan it was great to see them all on stage again. Not to mention it was the first time I was ever able to see them do a sound check and get to talk with them after it was done.
As far as Ed drinkin' and fuckin up some of the songs, how many times in the past did DLR do that. " I forgot the fuckin words". Everyone has their off nights when touring and unfortunately for Ed they were all magnified on here. I just hope that sometime in the near future we get to see Ed play live again and hopefully in a band called VAN HALEN.I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

listen to the atlanta boot that just started circulating. It's not a question of Ed forgetting a part it's incoherant rambling on guitar, it's obvious nobody in the band knows what Ed's doing. In the past when Ed would go off on his own Mike, Al and Sam could improvise and keep up with him-look for the boot of them playing Black and Blue on the 5150 tour, in the 04 tour it's just rambling with no direction, no focus and it's just terrible. I dont' remember it being that bad when I saw them but it was earlier in the tour and I wasn't really listening to everything Ed did, on the boot I have from Atlanta it's just plain old terrible.
