I know everyone whos anyone who's a Van Halen fan has seen this video from 1981, which is just plain badass.
I was watching it today on Youtube and was reading the comments.

Read d DanHalen2100's comment. I never noticed that before.

I think its kinda funny.

...on the contrary, Dave doesn't come in too late, I think it's Eddie who's starting the verse too early, he should have played the riff twice after the intro, he only plays it once and start the verse...

I have always noticed it, and for some reason I just assumed Ed came in to early.... just sounds that way. but who knows, maybe they played it different live and Dave forgot.

They played it like on the record, they're supposed to play the riff twice after the intro, I've just compared to other live shows:

Yeah, initially it does seem like Dave misses his cue but actually Ed is the one that screws up.

He makes a (slight) mistake in this version too, he hits the wrong cord and slides in the right one in the very beginning.

Very noticeable to those of us that know everything he does note for note, but still surprising to hear the Master fuck up.

D'oh! You got me there. I guess because I my mind Van Halen only existed from 1978-1996, the 2004 tour never entered my mind even though I went to one of the shows. His playing was horrible at the show I went to. What I meant was that it's surprising to see the Master fuck up during the heyday.

I was only kidding but I do know that his playing at some shows in 2004 was not on par to what he has done in the past...but in Toronto he was GREAT in Hamilton he was OK...but really...who are we to judge...
