Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!
...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

I dig it. Kind of reminds me of Nuno's guitar work during the Mourning Widows phase.

Yeah man, im glad to hear some new stuff out of him as well. Gary is really exploring his options with music. Though the Who tribute band stuff kinda threw me off.. His More Adult Contemp. E.P. was great, TOJ was great, and this sounds like it will be right up there with the rest. Look foward to hearing more from these guys.

Is it his intent to be mercurical, or can he just not find a project he likes - Van Halen, Tribe Of Judah, now HurtSmile, every so often an Extreme Reunion. Why doesn't he just start releasing stuff as Gary Cherone?

"Still Born" = Anti-abortion song.
"Set Me Free" = Ignorant/Depressed person song.
"Just War Theory" = Anti-war song.

I've wondered why he doesnt just release stuff as Gary Cherone myself. Who knows. He's got his reasons.
BTW, I dont think he had much say in the VH matter. I'd like to see another album out of Tribe of Judah.

My 2 cents on why he doesn't release the stuff as GC, becuase he's not a solo artist. He enjoys creating music with his friends, family, other great musicians. The best part of music these days, is that you can create a song, throw it up on a website like myspace, and immediately get it out to potentially millions of people. Lets face it, the guy is in his mid 40's, he's probably got residuals coming in all the time from the Extreme days, and i'm sure his stint with VH made him enough money to not worry about money.
He's keeping himself busy with the music he enjoys. BTW, East of Paradise, is my favorite song on TOJ.Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it. DLR

I think you hit it pretty cleanly...Gary has never struck me as someone that "needs" to be a solo artist. I think he genuinely enjoys being part of a group. I don't think he cares to have the entire spotlight thrusted on him. Which, I'll say it again, was one of the reasons I felt he was such a good fit for VH and makes him so well-liked by seemingly everyone who knows him. I've never heard anyone say that working with Gary Cherone sucks, or they met him and he acted like a prick.

nice
As a solo artist myself its hard for me to put myself in a state of mind where I would rather work with others, but you make a very good point. East of Paradise kicks ass btw.. Was TOJ a one off deal? One thing I would like to see out of Gary is atleast finding a project and sticking with it for a while.

VH III tour was great
It's nice to read a post from someone not jumping onto the "Gary sucks" bandwagon. I will always defend the VH III tour as being equal or better to any of the Sammy tours for the simple fact that the setlist for that tour was superior to all the tours with Sammy. Atleast Gary had the balls to sing songs like Romeo Delight, Mean Street, I'm The One etc. And he is a nice guy by all accounts that I've read.

Well, I’d much rather listen to Van Halen over anything by Black Sabbath. And I like Sabbath, but they’re not Van Halen.
