Default Alex and Ed in some mag

Sorry, I forget what mag it was (and apologies if this has been posted), but I saw it at the Supermarket a few weeks ago. It was a retrospective type thing of the band with interviews with people who knew them back when, with Alex and Ed offering comments as well. I don't remember much except they both (especially Al) were all over DLR, making comments like "he could never sing". Many others made the same observation along the lines of "lousy singer, but great frontman".....

Not slamming Dave, or looking to start a Sam/Dave thing, but just thought it was interesting that this type of article was published when the band are/were supposed to be reuniting with Dave. Kinda opens up old wounds. Couldn't help wondering if it was intentional??

    Anyone else see this?

IT was a Guitar Player or World magazine...and it was discussing the Biggest Bands in Rock History. I have the mag in my car actually

Good 4 page article on the boys with commentary from Alex, Ed, Mikey, old guitar techs.

The cover I think had God of Rock or something like that in stone lettering?

VH was one of the few bands that had a big article about them...Sabbath, VH, and a couple others...even Zeppelin only had a one page blurb...kinda surprising...

Now I hope this is the mag you were talking about...or else I look...prettty stupid...

Re-hash of old interviews (not current). Any mag can publish old quotes and what not.

    This wasn't the band's decision.

    Yup, thats the one!

I guessed it was older interviews, but I thought it was suprising that a guitar mag that makes its money by getting interviews with name guys (like Ed) would embarrass them (by printing old, unkind quotes) like that if they were getting back with Dave. I'd have thought they would have run it by the vh camp first, at a minimum. I mean, those mags aren't exactly bastions of journalistic integrity! Have you ever seen a product review that wasn't positive?!

I don't know of a singer in the studio that does do songs in one take.

I know I'm gonna regret asking this, but...

Does anyone remember a Rolling Stone piece on VH from the late 70's/early 80's that begins with the reporter stating that Alex has the biggest - ahem - unit in the band. His first quote in the piece is "I wish I had two dicks."

I vaguely remember this article and -- given the subject matter -- haven't exactly known how to ask about it.

But what the heck. It's all over but the shouting at this point, right?
What once upon a time made Van Halen unique in the progression of metal and hard rock (besides Eddie’s prowess as a guitarist) was its sense of fun, its willingness to be not just over the top, but weird.

    Wow,

Six whole posts before the thread became Dave vs. Sam.

The whole point of the comments were that it didn't matter that Dave wasn't the greatest vocalist, because he was such an amazing frontman. My point was that for something like that to get published, I'd say the vh guys must have at least known about it, and maybe tried to stop it if they didn't want to bring up old shit they'd said about Dave 10 years ago and risk infecting a fragile reunion. I'm guessing they thought screw it, its not happening with Dave or maybe something happened (RRHOF?) that made them remember why they haven't been able to get back together even though they've tried several times, and they've all but decided "the reunion's off, and lets take another shot at Dave while we're at it". Let's stay on topic and not get into Dave can't sing/Sammy can't write good lyrics/Dave's bald/Sam's fat. 'K?

    Yea,
what happened is Ed started to sober up and said "Dave, what the fuck are you doing here?".
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

This next part could really confuse things. Let's stay focused. #asis
